I have a Poly-Tech pre-ban AKS with a rather worn barrel. It is still accurate enough, but there is noticable chrome flaking in front of the gas port. At a recent gun show I met a dealer who sells AK parts. He had, among other things, many Poly Tech parts, and he said he did gunsmithing too. He told me he used to work for Keng's and that is why he has such a huge supply of Poly parts. He offered to re-barrel my Poly for $150 with a NEW Poly-Tech barrel. Is that a good price? I am debating this, as he is not someone I know by reputation. My Poly still shoots well, but the reassurance of having a new barrel while they are still reasonable counts for something, too. TIA!!!

I usually don't post replies on things like this but this time I will.
The Akcommando47 is the same guy that both of you have spoke with.
And yes you would have to travel along way to find anyone who know more about Ak's in gereral. And he does very good work when he gets a project going.
He may not be taking any work right now but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I do not know about Repertation on your guy but I have had trouble with my Ak and could not find a quick fix for it on some of the other ak site, Did'nt know about this one, but a guy contacted me and told me exactly what was wrong with my gun and he had never looked at it. Just by what I told him he knew what was wrong.
I was very impressed.
