Dear Fellow Members-Took my unissued Yugo SKS to the range today with some S&B and Tula 7.62.Amazingly,she was shooting within 10" of bullseye out of the box at 300 feet! After adjusting for windage and elevation,I got 3 shots within 3 inches of each other around the bullseye!Discovered that a stock SKS C-Clamp Sight tool just BARELY fits over the sight post-had to use some leverage to turn her!Have a T-sight post tool at home that fits over it a little more.Reagrdless,a very acuarate SKS!Did not try to fire in single shot mode.Cannot understand why the gasport button seems to have 3 positions-Down-semi-auto,first notch up-single shot, second notch back-?I did notice that the cut off valve does NOT want to travel all of the way back unless the gas piston is off.Any input greatly appreciated!:)-Gearhead.

That's good news! I also read a report by Empire Arms today where the guy said he shot 12 of the dark/pitted bore imports and the accuracy did not suffer.
Not sure about the valve setting. I'll always leave mine on semi until I get a big box of grenades :D
I was just thinking of you gearhead, I'm glad you posted.

FWIW,I tried a T-type SKS sighting tool made out of instrumentation tubing that I had used on a friend's SVT-40,as its body is a little thinner than the c-clamp adjuster. It only fit about a 1/16 of an inch down on the Yugo SKS sight post.I had also read another post somewhere where the person mentioned having to file the sight tool.I do know that the clamp worked like a jewel to drift the sight over.Still amazed that the Tula still shot only 3" or so off from the S&B!The elevation was so close initially, that I ended up returning almost to the original setting. The sight base was drifted MAYBE 1/32" to the right to get my 3 " group.I wonder if these were sighted in from the factory. My unissued Yugo M-48's deflection was DEAD ON at 300 feet and she shot a little high, but I read somwhere that the Yugoslavians sighted these Mausers in at around 350-400 meters-Don't know how true that is,but since the rear sight was depressed as far as it could go and the deflection was dead on,I left her alone.
Anyway, this is a sweet SKS-Don't know when I'll fire her again.Put grease in the barrel for the long term storage.Anyone else have any sighting stories to tell about these?:)Take care all-Gearhead.

Yep, I nailed my virgin Yugo yesterday morning. I did a very quick 10 rounds at 35 yards. It grouped about 8 inches low and right on the verticle line. I'll run some more thru her later when time permits. It was an I/O unit that had not been fired. I just could'nt stand it...I had to run some ammo through her!
Forgive me all you folks who wanted me to stash it a way unfired.
I know I have sinned!

Gearhead,
The second position back is to remove the gasport button.
Remove gas tube and piston, push button down, pull all the way back, and it will pop up. Watch out for the spring. Once the button is removed, you can pull the nozzle out for cleaning.
