I got this a round the end of August. IIRC it was advertised as VG for $60 so I paid $10 for handpicked. Total cost delivered was something like $78.00. I cleaned the wood with PP and applied BLO followed by a coat of Bowling Alley Wax.

1. that is beautiful. I ordered one of Century's $40.00 ones. I hope it looks as good as yours does. If it a beater, I'll have another restoration project to do. I hope not.;)

The only real hassle I've ever found with this rifle and the MAS 36/51 is the funky screws on the endcap and the barrelband. You can make one with a Dremel and an old flatpoint screwdriver but the screws on the 36 are different sizes so one won't work. You'll need to make two different sizes of tool, though the barrelband screws on the 36 & 36/51 are the same. They really are rugged rifles. The receiver and the bolt are massive. I'd like to get another 36 and rechamber it for 45-70.

Nice!
That rifle looks unissued, deal-a-meal!

I forgot to mention that though the butt is stamped it does not match the bolt and receiver which are matching. It is counterbored. The finish has a nice patina to it and except for the buttplate which was almost bare and the outside edges of the mag housing the finish is at least 90%. I think it is a truly nice rifle for the money. No sling or other accessories though. I'd rate mine a VG++. It shoots about 2MOA at 50 meters with the Port ammo but will do better I'm sure when I do my part. Like all of my little French Bitches she's a little on the short side as far as length of pull. I'll take the recoil pad off my 49/56 next time and I'm sure I'll feel more comfortable and my groups should improve accordingly. Au revoir mon amie.
