I have been looking at the Sig Pro SP2340 and the SP2009, i own a Sig 239 so i am a little more familiar with sig products. and also i am looking at the Walther P99, Clock 17, Berretta 92FS. i would appreciate any thoughts on the handguns that would help me make up my mind.

Glock 17 does it for me.. Depending on how I dress, it can vary from 17 to 19 but that's all I carry on and off duty... Light, accurate and so damned durable...

Ive got a SIG SP2340 - in short its more accurate than an Glock Ive ever shot, and has a slight edge on my brother's HK USP 40.
.40 is a nice calibre, not too much kick, and good stopping power. Some claim the 9 is weak, I really dont think so, but if Im limited to 10 rounds, I'll take a 40. Rounds are readily available and cheap too. This gun is smaller than a glock19 or USP, and damned accurate. Sucker is a true joy to shoot and cleans in about 10 mins :D
I personally love the sights on the SIG, the bar and dot make it the most accurate pistol Ive ever shot. it matched my old desert eagle .44 (which has a considerably longer barrel).
Next month Im getting a Steyr SPP 9MM with some 30 round mags. I think its a crock of shit that only LEO's can carry high cap mags. I don't see how their life is supposed to be more valuable than mine. Stupid Clinton. Anyhow I digress.
Well, best of luck deciding :)

The main reason I like the 17 is the caliber... Under adverse conditions 9mm would likely be the most plentiful ammo... The 17 is also the most popular among LEOs and the most "department issued" weapon I know of... Plenty of parts available too!!

Read up on the .45, not to say the 9mm is a poor calibre, and not to say the same about the S&W .40. I certainly would not like to be on the receiving end of any of the above calibres.
I would refer you to some of Massad Ayoob's material.
I like my .40, very accurate and easy to control. However, the .45 has a stopping power proven by time, and the ammo is available just about everywhere on the planet.
A lot of people go for hi-cap mags because they feel they are "out-gunned" but a practiced individual with a reasonable # of well-placed shots beats a spray & pray type.
However, I digress a bit. Sig is well made and should take a variety of ammo manufacture. I do not own one, but a sibling carried OTJ and was more than comfortable (.45, BTW) My experience w/ Beretta 9mm is nil, however, the Taurus model is very similar and eats just about anything. Lots of folks like Glock. Nice firearm, however I think some of the affinity comes with familiarity.
Walther is extremely well made with very close tolerances. This results in a superb firearm for fmj roundnose ammo but makes for consistent jams with hp varieties. I like to shoot mine, the frame is very comfortable and easily concealed, but greatly dislike the inability to load w/ hp ammo. It just won't go up the ramp, and I've been advised by them no amount of gunsmithing will change this.
Maybe I'll try some Remington in it. Expensive, but it is an avenue I have not yet explored.
My $0.02, hope it helps.

I have a Glock 19, Sig 229 and have carried the Barretta 92F. I would pick a caliber and get a Glock in that caliber. If you like the trigger, you can't beat glock. If you don't like the trigger, can't go wrong with the Sig. Walthers haven't been around long enough to make the call.

I'm thinking og a P99. Like the adjustable grip pieces & site posts. Can customize for myself.

If you are looking for something in the hi-cap flavor, I would either go for the Sig or the Beretta. High caps are plentiful for both. I have the 92fs and would not trade it for anything.

While the glock and Berretta are both good guns,I favor the SIG.
There is a reason the SIG P226 is declared by many firearms
experts"the finest double-action 9mm ever made".Before anyone
get legalist, yes I know Glock is not technically a DA handgun, the
DA throw-in was to give credit to the Browning HP as the finest
over all 9mm,albiet out dated.
And for you weekend wannabes who wanna play commando,
the SIG P226 is the offical sidearm of the Navy SEALs.

I'm partial to Sigs, but also like my Glock.
I have a 220 .45 (so old it says made in W. Germany) and have never had one malfunction!! That's quality!! I too agree that the Bar-Dot sights are great. The Sig's grip angle puts the sights 'right-on' for me every time.
I do like my Glock 22 .40 also, but pre-ban mags can be rather pricey.
It has to be your choice since everyone's hand has it's own natural preference...
