Hello All
I just bought a Yugo mod 98,it has 43 on the ring behind the crest I guess that is the year.
My question is,is this rifle considered a K98 like my German K98k or something else?

If it says preduetze 44, mod 98 than it IS a German K98, aquired and restamped by the Yugoslavs after the war.

No, this one one dosen't have the preduetze 44 on.
This one has an excellent bore, good blueing except at the muzzle, nice stock and most numbers matche.
I hope it shoots as well as my German,I'll find out monday.I have some Turk ammo to shoot up.

Hmm. I'm not sure if it's German or not then. Let us know how it shoots!

SKS45 and the rest that look at this. Here are the main ways to tell a German K98k from a Yugo 48.
1. German rifles have full round bolt knobs. Yugos have bolt knobs that are round looking at them when the bolt is closed, but flat underneath.
2. German rifles have a scooped out area in the stock where the bolt knob is. Yugo rifles do not because they create bolt knob clearance by removing the back 40% of the bolt knob ref my comment about the flat underside of the bolt knobs.
3. The hanguard wood on a German rifle (even the full sized GEW) stops at the front of the rear sight base. The Yugo rifles have a wood handguard that goes around the rear sight base and stops at the front edge of the receiver ring.
These three things, bolt knob shape, wood under bolt knob on stock or not and handguard stopping at sight or going to receiver ring is THE way to tell at a glance. I can spot a K98k from a yugo at the limits of my vision just by looking for the handguard differance alone.

So one might say its as easy as 1, 2, 3! ;) :D

Turk ammo will shoot very high in a Yugo rifle. Turk bullets are lighter and hotter than the Yugo was designed for.

It is safe too shoot, but it probally will not be accurate.

Well I couldn't wait till monday.I went to my range with my son inlaw after getting back from the flea market,he wanted to sight in a sks scope.
I'm more than satisfied with my Yugo, you were right the turk ammo shot high about about 5" at 50 yds.
But believe it or not after getting the range I put three holes touching each other, man was I excited!
I want make a snip...err target rifle out of this one but like my German K98k I hate to to drill & tap it even tho thats what I got it for in the first place.
I know one thing.... Im headed for K Mart to get a butt pad,man this thing hicks, can you say mule!
This Yugo meets the 1,2 & 3 rule so I guess its German.

Check Mitchel's Mausers, they are supposed to have a replacement mount for scope that does not require drill & tap, just removal of the leaf and replace w/ the mount. They also say they have some Jap scopes coming in designed for this mount. Have no idea about the glass quality. However, if the mount is good, it could be possible to change the glass.

I did a quick search and could not find any other site with Mauser mounts w/ scopes. Possibly someone else has had better luck.

Otherwise, it is probably worth checking out. They don't bill until they deliver.

To my nephew, aliceinchains thanks for the compliment on the 123 lesson. Oh, and you might want to get your blood pressure checke too!;) It does wonders for the bugeyes.
