I was looking for one of these for the longest time and spotted one at a gunshow. All matching numbers except the floorplate. I bought it and kept it in the safe a while. When I took it out for a test fire I discovered something strange. About every 3rd to 4th shot, the safety lever sprang up 45 degrees. This of course kept me from cycling the action. I gave it to my C&R gunsmith to check it out. When I got it back he wasn't sure what it was. I believe he made some adjustment to the bolt. It still pops up occasionally when I shoot and dry fire. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem with their Swede. I love Swedes(girls and Mausers!) but this is really bugging me. Any advice on how to fix would be greatly appreciated.

Is it loose? Otherwise I shouldn't know what's causing it. Never experienced this before.

The safety is a little looser than the 96/38 that I have. The bolt itself is not loose in the action.

I was referring to the safety being loose, not the bolt itself. The safety engages a notch in the cocking piece. It is free to rotate in the bolt head when the cocking piece is not installed. To me the only way it could flip up is from being too loosey goosey. The slot in the cocking piece could be the culprit having too wide of a slot. If you got a new safety or cocking piece to put on the rifle from some company like Numerich / Gun Parts Corp. you might cure the problem.

Pending resolution by other means,I suggest you buy (asap), another M38 Husky, as a companion.
You know the one that's having the problem, may just simply be, lonely.
And it'll give you the opportunity to disassemble both and minutely compare the parts to possibly identify the cause of the problem.
Don't tell your missus, I offered this as a solution, please.

Holmes,
The problem is that mine has matching numbers. Maybe I'm just the last sucker to get this rifle. I'm going to take Schuetz's advice and try to replace the safety.
Thanks guys,
