Haven't shot mine yet;was wondering what kind of accuracy any current or former .308 Galil shooters have gotten. The more detail the better: AR,ARM,barrel
length,ammo,range,sights,shooting position,etc. Thanks.

The Galil .308 AR model that I had would shoot 1 1/2" to 2" groups at 100 yds with mil. ball ammo (depending on the ammo). With commercial hunting loads it would do 1 1/4". I never shot any "target" loads. This was all done with open sights. I never tried a scope, but I feel quite certain that it would have done less than an inch with a scope. At least that is what my experience has shown me. (My groups are about 25% better with a scope versus no scope) My barrel incidently was 16.1" long, I had it cut down, recrowned, and threaded. On it I attached a Vortex flash suppressor for an AR-15. It was VERY effective. The 16.1" barrel brought the ballance point of the weapon to just slightly forward of the magazine, and really enhanced the "pointability" and "feel" of the rifle.

Thank you, tire iron! Excellent info. on the accuracy of your unique modified Galil. You spoke of it in the past tense; are you sorry you let it go or was it just one of many toys?

I do regret that it is "past tense". Enjoy yours and never sell it. It is the BEST .308 ever. I have had examples of all of them (M1-A, HK 91, FN-FAL, PARA-FN FAL). The only one that comes close it the PARA-FN FAL. Anyone that thinks different has never spent any trigger time behind one before.

Hey DK: I know your shooting a .308 Galil; how about a range report here sometime? I'd like to know how your's shoots. Thanks.

Hey M77B1! Will do. Haven't "wrung it out" yet. Just plinked for fun. It is a joy to shoot off the bench on its bipod!

I have owned me ARM308 since just prior to the signing of the weapons ban. That's 1991 I think? Anyway, since new I have only put 20 rounds through it. That's when I discovered the bent casing on eject problem. I stopped using the gun since I like to reload and needed the casings "unbent" http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif But the gun fired extremely accurately for those 20 shots. If I remember I used Eagle 150grn pointed ammo. At 100 yards the first shot was a bullseye - 1 inch grouping on a pistol target. But I'll never get rid of that rifle. I didn't even have to sight it in. Plus the looks I got from the other folks watching made me grin http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif Hope this helps.

Thanks,RF-Tech! I don't think mine will be NIB much longer, and replies like yours gets me psyched to fire that first shot.

I have a 16" AR that will shoot into 2" @100. The ARMs I have will only do 2.5-3". I wonder if the shorter Bbls shoot better for some reason, as I have a friend who shortened one and it shoots better than his ARM. All this testing was with Surplus Nato ball ammo of various sorts, and some M-118 NM US ammo (you FN guys, this fine 172 grain ammo won't fit in your nags, oops, mags. Works just fine in a Galil or an HK)
While this is as good as most military rifles that have not been modified, I have always been somewhat disapointed in this due to the fact that the 5.56 (223)Galils usualy do so much better. I have a couple that will shoot into 1" or better! I know this sounds hard to believe, but they do.
FN FALs and HK-91s with a trigger job will usualy out shoot a stock 308 Galil in group size from a bench, but the Galil is more than 'accurate enough' for combat. It has better human engineering, reliability and features for a combat rifle. I've owned them all, except a SIG AMT.

i still have not shot my .308 arm. i did get to shoot a fella's at the range one day. with irons i could hold 'em tight (forget exactly what i grouped)...i'ld like to try one with a scope as this improves my groups far better than 25% (old, tired eyes).
