I was not interested in waiting until March for my Yugo SKS to come so I cancelled the order, and in its place I have ordered a SCHMIDT RUBIN K31 ! I really wanted that more than the SKS anyway.

I ordered the "shooter grade" but if I like it as much as I expect too, I might have to get another :)

Zou, you will LOVE it! Schuetz was kind enough to let me take a few shots with his. Man, that's a nice action. All bolt action rifles should be straight pull! :D

BTW, thanks again Schuetz. That was quite an experience.

Matterhorns?

Which, by the way, would make most excellent yodeling boots...

For those that don't know, Matterhorn boots are what most GIs buy when they go to cold climates.;)

OK,

Some silly questions. Would the K31 (in the shooter grade only of course), make a good platform to build a sniper type rifle on?

Can you easily put a scope on one?

What round does the 7.5 swiss compare too?

and one question I think has been asked before, does anyone re-load the round?

Since the gun is supposed to be so accurate, it has me thinking...

Zouave, I don't know the answer to all your questions, but I think the ballistics are comparative to a .308 or 7.62 NATO.

I would definitelly consider making the rifle a scoped gun, but do not know how difficult a scope would be.

You will like yours. I will now tease you with a sexy picture of my twins.....

The Swiss did have 3 Sniper versions and the last is the 31/55. The two earlier versions used an offset to the left scope not unlike how the M1D and C Garands were set up.

Can you easily put a scope on one? Easily is a relative thing but I think the answer is no, not too easily. If you drilled and tapped the receiver you'll have to watch out for going through the receiver causing binding with scope base screws. If I were you I'd spend a bunch of time surfing the Swissrifles.com site for a scope base I'd seen there that mounts to the left side of the receiver. This way you can still stripper load it.

What round does the 7.5 swiss compare too? As SRV656 said it's pretty close to the 7.62 Nato round. It is a bit slower at 2650 fps but it's throwing a 170 gr. bullet vs. the Nato 147 gr. bullet. So they are about a wash on energy. Bullet drop would be more for the 7.5 Swiss due to the roughly 200 fps slower bullet speed.

and one question I think has been asked before, does anyone re-load the round? I have yet to reload for it but two local buddies do. The one is using 150 gr. M2 ball projectiles and about 47 grs. of 4064. He's also playing with Vita Vourhie (sp) V150 powder. I think he likes this powder better. The other friend is using GI pulled M72 match bullets. They are 172 grains so they are quite similar to the Swiss round's original bullet weight. This one likes 4895 powder although he does have a 46 gr. load of 4064 powder that also works out pretty good if I'm remembering this correctly. Remember always start low on the powder and work your way up.

Since the gun is supposed to be so accurate, it has me thinking...

Thanks for the info guys!

I can't use an offset scope, unfortunately as My dominant eye is my left one, and I am left handed. :(

I will surf Swissrifles.com and see what what I dig up...

42.0 grains 4895 w/168gr. match bullet
7.5 x 55 k1911 engineers carbine averages 1" at 100yds.
try to find 284 win. brass, then size in 7.5 die,use lube!!
gun still shoots about 6" high at 100,even w/norma fact.loads

Hey I went into the link and looked around and they have the same collapsing cleaning rod cleaning kits for sale as I picked up with my K31 I purchased in Switzerland.

Speaking of that, I just got an email and they said the time for it to ship is drawing near. They want to talk on the telephone this week! Wohah! Come to Papa! :D
