7.62x54R Muzzel Flash?

ok this is borderline stupid but....

I have noticed that in my M44 the 60s Albanian stuff makes HUGE jets of flame come out, while the '87 polish stuff I have here has almost no muzzel flash....why?

anyone ever notice anything like this?

Most likely the difference in flash is caused by differences in powder. A slower burning powder will cause more flash in a short barrel because there isn't enough barrel to burn up all the powder. Whereas a faster powder can totally burn in a shorter barrel.

Another reason could be a reduced powder charge in some types of ammo.
