I've begun to seriously think about buying a Galil. I would want a .223 one. I have never had a chance to shoot one, and I've noticed that no one on the list here seems to do so either. At least no one has even mentioned accuracy, reliablity, handling, etc of a .223 Galil. So just what makes this a rifle to justify it's high cost.

Sure I know it's milled, I know all about it's hsitory, I know all about the ledgend, I know the high price reflects it's rarity. What I want to know is some first hand facts. What makes it so good? What would you Galil owners change?

Hey Ross,
I've got a .223 AR. It is SWEET!! Shoots very well, accurrate, (haven't shot for group yet, planning on it today), HIGH fun factor. I particularly like the safey lever on the left side. Handles well, (better than my other AK's). I prefer the AR to the ARM. The AR isn't all THAT heavy, and I don't usually need the bipod on the ARM. I bought the .308 ARM because the price was RIGHT for a Galil!
The AR will generally cost less too.
My .223 AR uses the Galil Orlites, and the Galil steel mags. I also have the mag well adapter for the AR15 mags. They all work w/o a hitch (USGI, AR15 Orlites, AR15 Thermolds).

The rifle has a great trigger, and is probably my favorite .223 rifle to shoot. (IMHO better than my FNC, Colt M4gery, SP1 carbine). If you get a scope mount (pricey) they lock up tight. (one came w/ my .308 ARM and I swap it back and forth).

I love 'em!

DK: Which mount do you have, the military throw lever or the Action Arms screw type? I have the Action Arms but haven't used it. I have been warned not to over tighten this mount.

I've got the Action Arms screw type. Seems to work real well. Came w/ the rifle.
