Scope mounts were available from Cape Outfitters. Careful you don't get a Chinese copy. Here are some pics to help you.

The mount is pretty tight on my Valmet model 76. Seems to be pretty solid.

Good luck!

Re your inquiry on Valmet scope mounts, my advice is: don't bother. First of all, the pictures ont the earlier reply you got are decieving. Yes, the ring assembly appears to be made by Valmet, but the action cover/base is a piece of Chinese made junk being sold by Cape Outfitters. How can you tell the difference? Well, the Valmet base looks like the original action cover/ rear sight assembly. It's phosphate finished, not blued; and it does not have the raised ridge to accomodate the Chinese stamped reciever style safety.
My experience with Cape Outfitters is that they are as crooked an outfit as you can find. Not that they do anything that would get them arrested, but they just don't tell you the whole truth. As an example: they were the only source I could find for a .308 caliber firing pin, so I had to pay them $35.00 for a replacement. The part I got did fit my Valmet, but the flattened tip at the point tells me that it's a Chinese made part also. When I placed my order (by phone) the guy at the other end asked me if I wanted one of their $33.00 extractors for the .308. When I asked him why I should pay them that kind of money for a part I can buy from any AK parts supplier for $5, because it's absolutely identical to the 7.62x39 AK extractor, muttered something under his breath, and hung up---and this was before I found out that all thier stuff is Chinese made anyway.

Now for the really bad news----even if you find an original Valmet base and ring set, the gun will shoot worse than it does with iron sights. Why? Well, my best guess is that even though the unit feels absolutely tight when it's mounted (and it does feel tight),the scope and mount assembly are so heavy a top wieght on the base that it vibrates just enough during firing to keep shifting the point of impact. I tried mine on both my Valmet .308, and on a 5.56 Galil. The Galil shot about the same size groups as with iron sights; the .308 shot worse. My assumption is that the heavier recoil of the .308 worsened the vibration shift effect. If you just have to have a scope on your Valmet. Istrongly suggest you mount one of the Russian type side mounts. They may be clunkier looking than the Valmet mount but they are a hell of a lot more solid.

I have to disagree with Shamayim1 on the Valmet scope mount. The previous post was an original Valmet scope mount and cover. I am including a pic of the Chinese scope mount he his talking about. He is correct that the Chinese mount is pretty cheap. The Valmet mount is heavy....Verrrrrry heavy. The cover is quite different from the Chinese mount. If you look on the Valmet scope mount you will see a tip that engages the grove that is machined into the rib of the Valmet scope mount cover. As for the blueing, yes it is blued, and was made this way for the Valmet Hunter rifles.....a commerically available hunting rifle from Valmet that was blued instead of parkerized. My guess is my cover is originally from that batch.

Here is the pic of the Chinese model.

I also ran the pic by Buddy Hinton and a few other Valmet collectors. They agreed the one that I have is original. Here is a link to their posts

Hope this has been helpful to all!
