I want to buy a Valmet model 76W (wood stock) in .223 cal. for a project. Outside finish is NOT important. Not looking for a NIB, just a decent shooter w/ excellent internals. Have several firearms to trade, or will pay cash for right rifle.

I'm in Ga., would prefer a private sale, but ALL rifles considered. I have an FFL that can do the transfer for me if need be.
Thanks,
DK

Watch Sturmgewehr.com and the various auction boards. The Valmet M76Ws come up pretty regularly. There is a M71 at Gunbroker.com right now.

Be aware that Valmets are not like Eastbloc AK variants in the way the rear trunnion is made and the way the buttstock is mounted. Also, the pistol grip is fitted the reverse of the way all other AKs are done. Also, some of the rifles use UNIQUE rivets in the receiver assembly.
A Valmet isn't the best base for a project rifle, a Romanian rifle is.

It's hard to find a fair condition Valmet for under $900, NIB versions can be double that. The Valmet is in the collecter realm thesedays.

Regards,
Mike

Nicer than I was originally looking for, so I won't be turning this into a project gun, just gonna leave as is!
