Also are they a decent gun .It appears nice and shoots beautiful .It cant compare with my ar BUT I am happy with it and would like to know a little about them if anyone knows anything. Like what scope mount to use since that top dust cover crap wont cut it with me and alot of the aks i noticed have a mount on the side of the gun, mine is smooth on one side ,selector on the other:eek: Help!

I have some NHM rifles, and like them very much!! As for mags any AK mag should work in 762.(if it's a .223 Norinco mags are 4sure ,others may need mods.)Search thru older posts for scope rail info.

I have one in .223 and I see magazines now that are 15 rounders for about $20 each. I never saw a 15 round .223 mag for a Norinco .223 NHM until this past year. The 30 round mags are drying up and I don't know where these 15 rounders came from.(?)

Anywho, I mounted a 2X Tasco 30mm pistol scope on my NHM. It is a long eye relief scope that is mounted on the gas tube in front of the top handguard. I went with that because I had seen a Winchester 94 done up with a pistol scope back in 1981 and saw the wisdom in it! Also the NHM is a .223 and there isn't any corrosive ammo that I'm aware of so I don't have to strip it down and clean it after each firing.

I had to sand the top handguard down flat so it would fit and the wood was so dry (and thin) that it split into! Grrrr. Instead of glueing it back together I just mounted the scope over the bare tube. I do need to replace it one day just to have a heat shield on the tube. It is one of the Bishop thumbhole stocks. Nicely designed stock, just an inferior piece of wood on mine! Lucky me! When I get through with the epoxy on it that stock is going to outlast the gun by a hundred years! :D

Mounting the scope like that and using a long eye relief pistol scope, you would be amazed at how fast you get target acquisition when you mount the rifle to your shoulder. It is the same concept of Jeff Coopers "Scout Rifle" only I did mine about 5 years before Mr. Cooper "invented" the "Scout" rig. ;) (It just takes some great minds longer than others, [sorry Mr. Cooper]!) hehehe. Anyway, it is great for tracking running targets such as jumping deer whilst walking through the woods.

I have a Ruger Mini-14 and my Norinco beats it in the accuracy dept. hands down. I don't know why Bill Ruger won't make the Mini-14 an accurate carbine but I really like my NHM. The Norinco shoots 2 1/2" groups at 100 yards (5 shot groups) and the Ruger Mini-14 shoots 8" groups at the same distance with the same ammo.

Wanna buy a Ruger SS Mini-14 Rancher with a Butler Creek SS folding stock and a Miculek Muzzle break for $500? (I'll throw in 3 USA 20 round magazines with it!)

I had a NHM-90 and if you want the ability to use any AK, you must make a minor mod. Foreward of the trigger guard where the tab on the edge of the magazine catches and holds the mag in place there is a rivet. You must grind the head of this rivet off until you can reliably seat a European mag in the firearm. Chinesse mags have a recess milled on them to clear this rivet. I am horrible at giving instructions, so if this is not clear enough let me know and I will try attacking it from another angle.

I've heard of this, but my NHM's (both.223 & 7.62) do not have this feature. Easy enough to check and "correct" if nec.WW
