Well finaly got my yugo mauser. Its in what i think is exelent shape the metal i would say is 95% the bore exellent shape, all numbers matching and came with bayonet and sling all for $129.00 the only thing is the stock is a little beat up but at least it has matching numbers also. I cant wait to shoot it that is if i can find a place in delaware that will allow me to shoot surplus ammo. Most palces here if the ammo doesnt pass the magnet test they do not allow it. whats a person to do.

Good for you! Watch out, it kicks hard.

What is the magnet test?

The magnet test is that if the bullet sticks to a magnet they consider it steel core and do not llow it at the ranges around here
why i dont know but it is such a bummer not being able to go out and shoot. At least i only have 3 more years in delaware then i am going to either move back to south dakota or go to arizona.

I had never heard of that, thanks for the info. I am lucky enough to have never shot at a range. Isn't there any private land around you where can shoot?

ustanothergundude,
I hear this same thing from so many shooters. The people running the ranges are as sharp as marbles. The core can be lead but the jackets on most surplus ammo is steel with a copper or Nickle plating on it. So heck yes a magnet will stick to it. All M2 Ball US GI .30-06 ammo for the Garand and Springfields has always been copper plated steel jackets over a lead core. It will cling to a magnet every time.

Oh, Yugoslav 8 mm ammo is available that is guilding metal, copper and won't stick to a magnet. Cole Distributing has it for about $65 per case of 900 rds. Bad news is the cases weigh 78 lbs. and it will probably cost you $20 to get it shipped to you.

Thanks for the info on the YUGO ammo my local dealer should be getting some in shortly and he is very reasonable on his prices. I just wish these bozos around here werent so strict on anything that sticks to a magney. You cant even shoot in the national forrest or any public land here in delaware. I did find one place to shoot only problem is he charges $10 an hour and its only a 100 yard range but can shoot any kind of ammo except 50 cal. as for private land dont realy know any one here that owns any good size place. I have only lived here for almost a year. at least i only have 3 more years in UNCLE SAM's flying circus(AF).
