I haven't had a chance to look at it much yet but my Schmidt-Rubin has arrived. I will post more after dinner.

My 5 year old and "His" K31 :)

I would give up a sock for a rifle any day.

Welcome to the board, rdymadeQ!

I had some time to check her out, The bluing is almost perfect, about 95%. Some wear near the muzzle where the cap sits. The rifle also came with a sling :). I pulled off the but plate, and it did have a note. Name, Regt. and address.

The Stock is pretty beat up, which is to be expected, for a shooter grade, I guess.

A question, why is it common for the buttstock to be so worn?

Excellent! The stock is probably worn because they were carried around alot or stored in people's houses, probably got knocked over alot etc.

A Swiss mystery. Many theories, but neither the Swiss nor their rifles are speaking as of yet.

Minus- child missing sock
Plus- You got a muzzle cap.

Coincidence? I think not...

So Zou did you get any GP-11's to try in it?

I'd trade a sock for a muzzle cap... neither of my K31's had muzzlecaps, and I paid for the select grades too!

Nice looking kid.... lucky thing he doesn't take after his father!! I must say your Avatar is a good picture of you, but frankly, it's still awful!

i read a post that said they (the lazy/weaker ones ?) used them as a type of walking stick.

NC_REBEL told me that the reason for the worn buttstock is due to years of guard duty with the buttstock resting in the snow.

That makes since too me.

1. Being the original curio and relics au naturale guy that doesnt believe in refinishing due to taking away the character of the gun, Are you going to redo the stock, or leave it?

2. Curious minds want to know

I will put some BLO on the stock, to preserve it from future damage, otherwise I will leave it as is.

Zouave how is the bore and what does the rifling look like.

AIC,

The bore was dirty, but it cleaned up really nice. The rifling looks pretty crisp for a "shooter grade". I can't wait to shoot it this weekend!

Zouave,
I never operated one of them rifles. How does the bolt lock up,it is called a straight pull bolt.Once you chamber a round what keeps the bolt in place,or how do you unlock without firing the gun.

When you pull back the bolt, it actually rotates in the reciever to unlock, and when you push it closed it rotates and locks. It is pretty neat, the gun ejects out the top apparently. I will find out this weekend :)

Thank's for the information zouave.I remember when the modern blazer rifle came out.The bolt system must be similar.
