Does anyone know about the markings on P-38? I'm getting one but have found out there are different markings on them. Most are AC followed by the year it's built, ie. AC 43, then there are BYF, and CYQ. Does AC just mean the year, or is it a mfg plant? Does anyone know the significance of those? And if the quality differs between them.

I think I'm getting one for my father who's birthday's coming up in a week. He's born in '43, so I want to get a AC43 or something, but Century said they dont' do handpick so that sucked! If you know of a place that let you pick please provide a link. Thanks alot, I really appreciate this, and also thanks for getting me into C&R. :D

Heres a great place for info on the P38:

www.p38forum.com

Click on Tech Info and you will find information on all the markings. Go to the message boards and you will find some great experts that can tell you just about anything you want to know about the P38.

ALRIGHT! I sent my 400 to FGS now. They have the best deal around for WWII P38, certainly alot better than the Gunbroker auctions. Thanks for the help.

I am very interested in the service you get/got from F.G.S., Inc. I just sent them my $404 for an AC 43 this morning. 43 is my wife's birthday year.
