During a visit to my local candy store ( gun shop ) today, I saw a strange looking Mauser sitting in the corner. The stamp on the receiver said " F.B. Radome 1933 which should be a Polish stamp if i'm not mistaken. The stock was a laminated K98K. The action looked like a full length GEW98 with straight bolt. On the side of the receiver was the stamp " WZ98 ". Is this a Polish Mauser variant of some kind? They were asking $115 for it. What do you guys think? Might go back and pick it up if it's worth it.

That sounds Polish and very cool and for a good price. I never heard of one, but it sounds pretty inviting to me.

karabin wz 98 and wz 29:
Actually a Mauser made under licence by the Warsaw armory. the wz29 model was a variant of the tcheque mauser carbine.
Length: 1.09m Weight: 4kg Magazine: 5 shots.

Here's a real good link for info on the WZ98

Notice the very small production numbers listed for the straight bolt rifle. I would go buy that rifle tomorrow if it were me.

Wow . . . nice find, what Aliceinchains said! Get it if the bore isn't a dark pitted sewer pipe! Hurry somebody else may get it first!

Thanks for the help guys!! The only thing that makes me hesitate is the fact that it wears a German, laminated K98 stock - not correct for the wz98 according to the info provided by Redstar. How do you think this will affect the collectibility of this piece? I will call my gunsmith tomorrow and have him check the bore for me and put it aside if it's good. I guess I could always try and find a GEW98 stock somewhere. Thanks again for the help!!
