I just purchased the first Mauser for my collection. It is one of the Yugoslavian captured K98k available from CDNN Investments. I'll save a review until I can get pictures up and get out to the range.

I have one question. When I retract the bolt as far as it will go, the follower snaps up in front of the lower edge of the bolt face. To close the bolt I have to depress the follower. Is this normal in Mausers.

Hehehe! Yes it's normal, your rifle isn't broken. Think about this, you are shooting at the enemy, you fire one, two, three, four, five but in the heat of combat you loose count. Then you try for that 6th shot only . . . . verdamnt! The bolt won't close! Ahhhhh . . . himel mine Gweher est empty! Grab the stripper clip and thumb in 5 more! JA das is gute! (Yes that is good.) ;)

Anyway it lets you know the magazine is empty so you know to load another stripper in. :D

Some have been modified by cutting the back corner off of the mag follower. In this case you won't know when you are dry as the bolt will push the empty follower down and close on an empty chamber. Not what I'd want in my rifle.

Hey Schuetzenman,
thanks for the reply. I had an inkling that might be it but I've never encountered that in a milsurp bolt action before and my friend said that neither his turks or his M48 functioned that way.

Now if this thing shoots decently I might be able to overlook the pitted bore and wood dents.

Thanks again Schuetzenmann and everybody else on this forum. I love this place!

You're welcome Sesh.

Most Turks and all the Yugo 48 series rifles I've handled have the corner of the follower cut so that it won't hold the bolt open. To me it's strange they did this as it has an important role to play in combat IMO.
