while Ive never fired or chambered 8mm soft points in any of my military mausers I think you are probably correct. These rifles were designed to fire Military FMJ ammunition.Sure there are many mausers out there that easily chamber hunting/soft points but most of these are civilian modified sporters.Im sure many people out there have chambered this ammo without problems but maybe the M48's just dont care for anything but FMJ.Ill have to get some hunting ammo and see if it functions in mine.

Nephew,
You might want to check the mag spring and make sure it's ok. Then try and find where the soft points might be hanging up. Could mean that some dremel work or polishing is in order. Then again most bolt guns will bump the soft point a little when feeding but that doesn't have too large a effect if any on the accuracy of the round. The back of the bullet is what will make or break accuracy if damaged.

Anytime kid! ;)
They aren't super strong anyway, you might try to stretch it a bit and see if that helps it. Be careful you could break it.
