Makarov's are definately nice to look at, but how are they on the range? Can anyone let me know how great of a marksman you have to be to get a decent group at 25yrds?
Thanks

The hardest part is getting used to the sights. The sight picture is actually not so bad, compared to most European small automatics of the same time period. However, they're fixed and getting accustomed to regulating the pistol can be a learning curve for most of us spoiled by modern sights. Once one has passed that point, though, the Makarov is capable of excellent accuracy. I would say it could hover at 2-inch groups on 25 yards easily.

Be seeing you.

If only the sights were bigger... it takes me a while to acquire them when i first get to the range and start putting rounds down range. After a few I get...'switched on' and I can acquire the sights and fire quite fast.

I suppose if the Makarov were my primary carry piece I would be in condition red all the time. But, its not. The HK USP or the Glock 21 are my primary carry pieces... both with nice big, huge freakin' sights!

Aftermarket three dot sights would definitely help;

but aside from the sights, it is actually a very accurate pistol. I have actually been amazed at how accurate they are. I have several and this applies to all. I guess it is due to the fixed barrel.

Another thing that is nice about the accuracy is the second shot follow-up. The recoil "snaps" but doesn't "push" so your hand naturally comes back to its initial position.

I love these things. I cannot wait until AIM gets some more in stock so that I can buy two more.

Definitely due to the fixed barrel. Thanks for the link to the sights -- that's just what I've been needing!

Be seeing you.

I have a Russian Baikal IJ-70 Makarov that I've owned for several years. This was one of the best gun purchases that I've ever made. You can't bet it for the price!

I was hitting "Black" every time at 25yards "Out of the Box". Mine did come with the adjustable rear sites which I like. Has the standard black none thumb-rest grips.

I do carry it for my personal protection because its a very safe gun to carry and has a very long history of reliability behind it.
