While lurking at FALFiles, I found this:

A guy named faldoc did this work. What a beautiful stock! Here's the pic:

Frankly it looks too good! They stopped using walnut after WWII and went to the Beech.

Well Shawn, Walmart is where I've purchased my Formby's low gloss Tung Oil since 1980. Look in the hardware / paint & stain section of the store. It's in a tall slightly triangular shaped but rounded on the sides shaped bottle. The label has some turquois green on it.

Shawn Lowe's and Home Depot are your best bets. Ace and True Value would carry it too, but co-ops don't get the same bulk buy discounts, so they will charge you more.

Thanks for the positive comments on my refinished walnut stock. It was a select grade from AIM which was a bit dinged up at the buttstock so I took to it with my trust Sears orbital sander to grind it all smooth. This is no museum piece, so refinishing it would not get me any less on Antiques Roadshow. I used Minwax special walnut stain. I finished it with Formby's glossy tung oil. I like the glossy because you can either leave it shiny or cut it gently with fine steel wool and gloss it to a nice semi-gloss sheen by hand buffing it. I have also had good luck with this on FAL walnut stocks. I finish it off with paste wax. Nice thing about the tung oil is you can touch up areas without redoing the whole thing.
BTW does anyone know what the finish on the buttplate is supposed to be? Mine was in the white but all dinged up so I sanded that to make it more presentable. I have it coldblued for now, but would get it back to the white if that is what it is supposed to be.

Nice information on how you did the stock. I love Walnut!

Welcome too our board, faldoc.
I would guess that the buttplate was originally blued, but I am not sure.

Yeah welcome aboard, faldoc. I hope you don't mind the cross post. I thought your work was so nice that it was worth sharing with my fellow C&R nuts. :)
Schuetz, the butt plate on yours is not blued is it? The K31 is a new obsession for me, so I don't know all the ins and outs but I would have sworn it was brass.

Here is the stock of another of my guns, an STG58 parts gun with walnut buttstock. I spent much more time and handsanded this stock to 600 grit, and applied at least 3 coats of tung oil. Lots of hand rubbing to get the sheen and semi-gloss look. It has a nice 3 dimensional quality to it. There is no walnut stain in this, as the wood was dark to start with. I love this one.

Well NC_Rebel, I'll have to find the photos of the rifle I bought in Switzerland as I don't remeber if it was blued or bright steel. I can tell you the buttplates are not brass and are steel though.
