Good for you!

I think they are awesome looking! Make sure too use the 196gr ammo for it, I don't think they function with the cheap Turkish 8mm.

How's everything going Misguided?

I too have wondered about these guns. It's easy to cringe at a C&R that isn't under $150 but then we look at any centerfire semi auto gun on the market and they look pretty darn good.

I second that notion on ammo. In fact I seem to remeber reading a post by somebody on a forum not sure if it was on 47.net, and the Turk ammo broke to extractors. Turk ammo = bad juju for the Hakim.

Shoot Yugoslav or other 198 gr. ammo in it if you don't want to break the rifle. Remeber most 8 mm is corrosive so clean well.

Misguided, are you getting it from Empire Arms? There were a couple nice looking ones there.

No a private owner who bought it from Curt Ellison a couple of years ago. $295 shipped

True but when you consider that the majority of my collection is swedes, which of most cost me $250 to $365 I dont cringe to much, like anything else in life you get what you pay for:)

295 shipped is a very good deal! Congrats! :D

I love the looks of the Hakim, might have to look for one some day soon...I know of one here in town for a cool $400. ABout 100 overpriced for its condition tho.

Hakims are just 8 mm versions of the Swedish AG42 B rifle. They are direct gas impingment just like an AR-15 / M16. In fact that's where most "experts" claim Stoner got his idea for running the M16 from, the AG42B Swedish rifle.

The only problem with the 6.5 X 55 Sedish Mauser cartridge is there isn't any inexpensive sruplus ammo. :( (Sigh!)

I keep toying with the idea of getting a Rashid from J&G, or a Hakim, but they say 'may have oxidation'. ie-RUST.

I need to call and see if it's on the outside. If it's in the bore forget it.

'may have oxidation'
LOL
I guess where stupid I guess if they put a $2.00 word for rust it might make it better.http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/stupid.gif

So, so true.

I sold mine a few years back. They are fun and LOUD! That perforate muzzle does a number. My only problem was mine seemed to like ripping the case mouth to shreds during ejection. Now it does have a gas ajustment system but I never made a tool to adjust. Also if your into reloading forget it with a Hakim. During ejection the case is slammed against the top cover deforming severly.

I bought mine for $90 back in the late 80's. Sold it for $250.

I've seen a bunch of Hakim's lately and they all have been rust buckets for sure. I did see one that was just awesome with a beautiful finish on it! 100% positively! $595 is what the guy wanted for it. I have heard these are crappy rifles? I keep hearing bad things about them blowing up or coming apart. Anybody had experience with them, they are neat looking in a K31 way.

 Crappy rifles? No! Not even! They aren't going to be tack drivers, probably 3 or 4 MOA weapons. They are fun to shoot. I'v got a buddy that has 2 of them and a couple of the AG42B's as well. He likes shooting all of them. They are loud. If you shoot corrosive 8 mm they are a bitch to clean out. That's the only problem with them I know of. Cheap ammo = corrosive ammo = mucho cleaning.

The wind that comes off that muzzle break (perforated barrel section at the muzzle located behind the front sight) will just about blow a mans hat off if you stand next to the shooter in an offhand match. I know because it started to as I was standing next to my buddy when he was shooting his! LOL!:D

BTW, I see them for $275 to $300 in my neck-o-the-woods. For almost 6 bills it better be a freaking museum piece like it just rolled out of the arsenal.

I had one about 12 years ago...heaavy, fun to shoot though except that Blast goggles would have help. Blowback concussion for whatever reason seemed more on this rifle than others.

I just bought one from a guy at a show, yes the are loud, 3-4 moa, but they are fun rifles, I would highly recommend one; I love mine. It does have a little bit of "Oxidation" on the underside of the reciver but it isnt bad at all. I would recommend the Hakim instead of the Rashid because I have heard bad things about the mechanical soundness of that rifle.

My 1st time here, just bought a Hakim- beautiful rifle.
Does anyone know what the original finish on the metal is?
Mine looks to be blued but then again it could be well worn parkerizing?
