i called Navy Arms today just to see if they got any of these in yet, i was told "no, and don't know when"

2 hours later my doorbell rings and its the BBT dude:eek:

anyway
LONGBRANCH 1942 7L28** . no #'s match. most parts are painted with a thin semi-gloss black. bolt & butt plate a flat silver. mag = flat black.
wood is like new if not new, accept the front hg is missing the finish so is a little lighter color than the all matching med to dark brown :) . didn't patch the bore yet, but it looks like it will be at least VERY good(my good, not crappy NRA good). has the 2nd variation rear sight:mad: will get 1st var. i wanted a "No4 Mk1" but oh-well, i'll keep it.

it has pretty much no collector value to it because it is a so called rearsenal job by them. but it looks really nice, should shoot good. so i think for the money its a good deal :)

its not orange as it looks here. it brown, walnut i think.

ok, i want to make the bolt black as it should be. i think it would be better to remove the silver paint first then ? what finish should be on it ?

also, the butt plate is silver. i don't think its brass underneith
:( , i think this should be black also ?

btw, i have yet to see a NA marking anywhere :)

oh-yeah, it has a #2 bolt head, i think this is good

That rifle sounds nice too me! I look forward too seeing your pictures.

I really don't concern myself with collector value anymore, I just collect for my own enjoyment.

Zou has the right idea. Those Navy Arms rifles are gorgeous, even if they aren't "original." Look at it this way JES, at least you have one now! :D

oh-yeah. what finish is on these things ? the front wood need some.

"I really don't concern myself with collector value anymore, I just collect for my own enjoyment."

i agree. while getting a nice "collector" piece is great, its not going to happen with resources i have (except for my arisaka 99t, but i lucked into that). so i will have to settle for nice "examples", which isn't bad :) . and yes i'm glad to have one now :)

1. It looks beautiful to me, and you can shoot this one to without worrying about ruining a collectable. You can always go get a wall hanger from interordnance later and clean to your hearts content. But for now ENJOY. LOOKS GREAT.:D

JES, gorgeous rifle! :)

ok, i want to make the bolt black as it should be. i think it would be better to remove the silver paint first then ? what finish should be on it ? I think they are sand blasted, maybe bead blasted. You could try to paint it, but every time you draw the bolt back that friction would scrape the paint off. I'd leave it alone.

also, the butt plate is silver. i don't think its brass underneith i think this should be black also ?Yeah, the butt plate should also be painted. If you leave the bolt alone, you might as well leave the butt plate too. That way they'll match and it won't look strange.

btw, i have yet to see a NA marking anywhere

Sorry that the pic sucks. Mine says "N.A. CO. Ridgefield, NJ." Look closely, it should be there.

i took it apart. the wood is not new. it was a little dirty on the inside, but not bad at all. the wood had many hairline cracks on the inside, but some super glue fixed those easy enough.

the bore is a little pitted still, but the patch's were still coming out grean when i quit cleaning (for now). so i don't know how well it will end up.

i still like it :)

link no workie .

the bolt & head had some black on it. i assumed it was the silver paint coming off of it, but it was paint from the reciever.
what finish is supposed to be on them ? blue ? i could buff it, then sent it out to be hot blued. while the silver doesn't look bad at all, i want it to be black like it should be.

IMO the bolt is bead blasted and it could be painted with Baking Lacquer that you can get from Brownells or you could just use Oxpho blue and blue it.

On the buttplate, it's aluminum so either the natural color or once again try the backing lacquer . . . hum if it will stick to aluminum. Aluminum presents a problem to get stuff to stick to it. Me, I'd just leave the butplate as is but I'd probably at least blue the bolt.

I've seen painted and some blued bolts on originals.

i don't think painting would work for me out of fear of it chipping off in places and looking crappy. maybe i will smooth it up a little on the buffer and have it hot blued, i like hot blueing and it shouldn't cost much. maybe i will try a little cold blue test on it. but cold blue hardly ever gives me a satisfactory result. though i have yet to try oxpho blue.

the butt plate is going to be painted. thats correct/looks better. and if it chips i can just repaint it.

well i cold blued it today. let me tell ya, it looks lots better !
its not as nice as hot blueing would be, but it looks better than i thought it would. i didn't buff it either. fyi
