Wise choice on the Bushmaster, you will love it. You should buy (GI)- mags, I like (Circle Kay) brand, they usually run $25.00-$30.00.:ar15:

Thanks scooter. I was told to stay away from 30 round ones and get the 20 rounder. Do the 30 round ones have a feeding problem when you get down to the last ones? Where can I get the Circle Kay ones?

I have been using 30 rd mags for many years and haven't had any feeding problems at all. Make sure they are (GI) mags. You can usually find them at gunshows. What model Bushmaster did you order?:1919:

If you call Bushmaster ask them about the function of their 40rd mags. They will tell the truth about there reliability,if they are unreliable they will let you know. I have not personaly tried these mags, sorry I can't give you the scoop.:sniper:

I have used many GI mags without any problems, but if you do get a bad one you will find out when the weapon tries to strip the 3rd from the last round .
I have also had problems with the orlite mags I have heard that when you buy them the plastic strip that mates with the bottom of the mag well should be somewhat intact and then you can file it to fit your weapon if you have to . The problem is that all of the mags I see already have it ground off???
If you go to the Fulton Armory faq there is a section on mags and it tells of two GI manufacturers to avoid
hope this helps:) :)

Cheaper than dirt has 30 round Orlite mags for 16.00. They fit my Bushmaster with no mod. to the mag . Function was perfect. I think I just talked myself into buying some more.

I HAVE 2 ORLITE MAGS, ONE WORKED FINE ONE DIDN'T WORK.
PUT A NEW SPRING IN IT BUT HAVEN'T TESTED IT.
SEVERAL USED G.I. MAGS THAT I'VE REBUILT WORK FINE.
AND NEW G.I. MAGS ARE GREAT!

Post if the spring and follower help
Do your mags have the plastic rib filed off? I remember when "cheaper than dirt" was selling the orlites they would list two different order #'s one said that it "does not work in bushmasters" I wish I would have ordered one of each to see what the difference was.

My Bushmaster came with a Bushmaster 30 rd when i got it. That is probably the best mag I have. Too bad I cannot find them anymore. Orlite mags did not work well for me, the Thermold do ok, but they seem to stick sometimes and you have to hit the assit to get the round to chamber for the first round. The qaulity on GI mags can differ a lot. I have gotten some that have lasted 2 years and others that only last about 2 months.
The Okay ( Circle K) mags are the best GI 30's IMHO
But all of the GI's are good. Thermolds have never given me a problem either.
Stay away from the Steel mags and the USA brand mags and you should be fine. I have had more problems with the 20 rnd GI mags than with the 30's. Maybe because they were older and used more before I got them. I replaced the springs on the problem ones and they have behaved ever since.

I think Bushmaster has the 30 rd. ones on there web site. Mine came with a ten rd. and it is a piece of shit. After you insert it in and hit that button on the side to close the bolt it wont feed the cartridge. It binds it up, and presses the bullet in another 1/4" into the case. Even does it when you charge the bolt by hand. I got three Colt 20 rd. ones and all of them have worked fine as of now. Have only shot 40 rounds through each one.

Hey I found this thread via the search function, searching about Orlites -- my lower is a RRA, not a Bushy.
Cheaper than dirt is selling used Orlites that they say will fit in Bushys for $13-something. They also sell other used Orlites for $10 that do not say they will fit in Bushys, and they say they are very worn.
Thought you Bushy guys might want to know.

Congrats on the new Bushmaster. Like others said; the USGI 30 round mags are the way to go. I have many and all work well in my Bushmaster. Actually, I never tried the small Bushmaster mag that came with the Bushy.

The majority of magazines from the USGI manufacturers will be okay. There are questionable magazines from Center Industries. Some folks have problems with Sanchez magazines. I have a couple of Sanchez that run fine. I also have a couple of Sanchez that didn't do so hot, but after I changed the followers to mil-spec green followers, the problems vanished. I forgot to mention these are all 30 rounders. Most (but not all) of the USGI manufacturers also produced 20s.
Thermold magazines are nice, but I pretty much limit them to range use, and usually from a rested position. Smooth feeding magazines, but generally not sturdy enough for field use or rough handling.
Older Orlites will be hit or miss with your Bushmaster. Supposedly newer Orlites will work in newer Bushmasters, but sometimes a slight filing on the magazine may be in order.
