Recap on what I did:

Cleaned wood with a strong alkali cleaner, took off all metal parts washed small parts in diswasher, bigger parts by hand. Scrubbed down the barreled action really good. Lightly sanded the wood, sanded out a couple of the bigger gouges, left most dings and scratches including two different frogs' initials, an 'A' on the comb, and CH on the lower guard towards the front. Wood glued and clamped small fracture at top base of buttstock. I then re enamled buttplate, barreled action, bolt, bands etc. with brownell's enamle bake on gloss. I oxphoed the mag internals and trigger as they were originally blued. The rest of the rifle was originally enamled. I kept this rifle true to original configuration.
I put a couple coats of oil on the wood and here she is:

The finish looks fantastic! You are really getting good, REDSTAR!

Thanks guys, I'm pretty proud of this one. That wood has all kinds of swirrels and birds eyes in it. I've never seen a stock with so much pattern to it. I lucked out on that for sure.

Even my wife remarked how nice that one looked without me having to load the question. She just saw me carrying it and remarked- Oh that is BEAUTIFUL!! So I was well pleased :) If she knew I baked it in her oven for 40 mins she may not have been so enthusiastic LOL! I did it on my day off.

I bet you can hardly wait to go out and stick something with the bayonet. You got some nice wood there.

Very nice. I've never seen that type of wood before. Kind of a burled Maple. Please copy this to the French Rifle Section, would ya?

Funky! Some of those streaks have to be bruises on the wood. Wood seems to have a flame grain, kind of unusual.

Yeah some of the lines are dings but most of the circular dark spots are birds eyes. Like usual the pic doesn't do it complete justice. To the eye the buttstock matches the rest of the wood better too. The grain goes in curvy waves about an inch between patterns.

RS- We move stuff to the proper forums once a week if it's posted here.
