I'd like to get one of those MN revolvers, but can you roll yer own with that funky round?

Tales of the Gun said it was the most "automatic" type revolvers ever made.

What's the balistics of the 7.62 like? If it's like 30 Mauser, that can't be shabby!

I like the way it seals off gas escape. I guess it wouldn't be too bad to be shooting right next to one of those. Those lead slivers can hurt.

The exit wound in a melon was the same diameter as the bullet.

According to the article, it dented and bounced off of a steel pot helmet, even with solid hits. The Tok he used after that tosted both items.

Conclusion:

heavy, slow rounds = good (.45ACP, .455 etc):blob:
light, fast rounds = good (9mm, .30 etc):blob:
medium weight, medium speed (under 1K/fps) = lethal, but not a positive stopper (7.62x38R):bluegrab:

What kind of helmet? I have seen 45 ACP bounce off of a German Model 1940 helmet, fired direct at about 15 feet. Just left a bunch of dents in it.

That was the strongest military helmet ever made until the Kevlars came out, though.

Prices for the Nagant run anywhere from $50 (http://www.auctionarms.com/search/displayitem.cfm?ItemNum=2390067) & up depending on what you are willing to pay for it. 762x38R ammo is expensive ($25 per 50 rounds) when you can find it. The 32acp cylinder costs about $45 & in my estimationis not worth it. I had one and never could get it to index w/o a hassle. I ended up including it when I auctioned off one of the Nagants that I owned last year. It can handle 32 S&W long without any problem but it does not create the seal so accuracy is not as good. It should also be able to handle 32 H&R Mag but I haven't tried any in mine yet. You can reload for it. One way is to use 32-20 brass (http://www.auctionarms.com/search/displayitem.cfm?ItemNum=2389959).

I'll vouch for the fact that the 7.62 nagant ammo is hard to find.

A standard price for a Nagant revolver with holster and cleaning 'rod' and lanyard string in excellent arsenl refinished condition should be about $50, that's what SOG and Century were charging for them. From a dealer I've seen them as high as $130. I didn't look at the auction but it looked like he was saying it was $50 so that sounds OK to me. Neat looking revolvers if anything, I got two of them.
