I'm having some serious accuracy probelms with my M48 (not to mention stock problems but thats another thread). Does anyone have any suggestions? It seems like I can't get the elevation right, even all the way back on the rear sight it shoots waaaay high at 100yds. I'm seriously considering getting it drilled and taped for a scope...is this a good idea? (Yes I know its "sporterizing" but I've always wanted a Mauser Sniper Rifle)

Ok, first off these rifles are zeroed for 200 meters. Your rear sight should have a 2 or 200 on the rear sight to indicate this. You can change out the front sight for a taller blade and then shoot and file until you get to where you have your 100 yd. zero. This is very common in almost all surplus Mauser rifles. Swedish Masuers for example are set up for a 300 meter zero. So are German GEW WWI era Mausers.

Drilling and tapping for a scope. IMO it's a bad idea. Someday these things will be worth quite a bit assuming we can still own weapons 20 or 40 years from now. But anyway, a nice Excellent original condition rifle will be desirable by a military arms collector. Drill it and tap it and you might as well carve your name on the stock and then fill in the letters with Pink Nail Polish!

BTW no flame intened. There are adequate no drill and tap sight mounts. Go with the Intermediate eye relief scopes and a B-Square base that replaces the rear sight.
