I got the Turk mauser cleaned up finally that I got from AIM. I asked Brian to get me a hand picked Turkish Mauser ($10 extra) and was curious to see if I actually got a decent one. He promised me a VG condition rifle, and when I pulled it out of the box I was initially very pleased. ALthough the bluing of the rifle is not very good, I can tell that the rifle was reasonably well cared for. The wood is fantastic and actually better than many of the Excellent condition rifles I've had before. I would rate the bluing however at about 10-20%. The bolt does not match the rifle, and neither does the floorplate, but I think the rifle will be very shootable.

Here's a pic of the bluing (Yes, i altered the Serial Number). I can't tell what is bluing and what is rust. I'm tempted to just take some steel wool and scrape all the crap off it until it shines.

I was most interested in the bore and was fairly pleased. The first half of the barrel looks perfect, however the half towards the muzzle looked fairly pitted. The pitting is not the worst I've seen, and I think it will be very shootable.

Overall for $50 + $10 for shipping I think the rifle is well worth the money. I'll let you know how she shoots.

By the way, I could not get the damn extractor off the bolt. The directions I have say that I need to "rotate it" then "push forward".

Here's a pic of the rifle that shows both sides.

That's a great looking stock Shawn. I'd pull the barreld action out of the stock and then use a blue remover on the action. I'd follow up with the Oxpho Blue paste. It's not like it's a K98k bring back so touching up the bluing isn't too big of a deal in a collector sense. After all look what you paid for it, not much! :D

That is a pretty good looking stock. Give WG&A a try on the next one. The EX I got for $60 had near 100% blueing with a very bright bore. No pitting at all. The stock is one of the unfinished ones though. Very dry and not really sanded at all. Smoothed up real nice but I think I like your stock better.

Shawn, your stock is beautiful!

A note to everyone thinking of buying a Turk Mauser, don't overlook Century! The $59 Turks I picked up from them had matching numbers and perfect bluing...

(the rifle on the bottom is an 1893 Turk that I had since I was a kid - the top two are the T38's from Century)

shawn. its hard to tell from the pics, but you say it had rust on it ?
mine didn't have any rust, but no blueing either, its mostly browning. nice wood.

everyone with one of these :
take your bolt (uncocked) and force it forward and pull it back.
now, about how much play do you have ?

now take your bolt completely apart. load a round. now how much play do you have ?
