i have a No4 Mk1* long branch.

1. what is the firing pin protrusion measurement ?
mine doesn't stick out very far.

2. when working the bolt. the lower/left locking lug hits the sear if i am going lightly working it. if i lift up on the bolt and work it it doesn't hit. is this normal, does yours do that ?

3. the front handguard is not even with the lower stock. it is more to the rear by about .035. yeah, that doesn't seem like much, but its very noticable

4. the front sight base seems to be a to be a good bit to far back. can you see the lugs sticking out from under the base ?
mine are a good bit, is this normal ?

Doesn't sound right to me but that's possibly the fault of the design. See the trigger is not part of the action it's part of the mag well and trigger guard on these no. 4 MKI's. MK II's are part of the action. Well what that means is if the stock shrinks the trigger guard and trigger might be able to move closer to the bolt when the action screws are tightened down. Should be modifiable if necessary.

mine are a good bit, is this normal ? This one is mistifying me. Lugs, what lugs? Are you talking about lugs on the barrel? If so those are bayonet lugs, there are two for the spike bayonet to attach to. There are also some minor ones behind the bayonet lugs and up against the front of the front sight base on either side of the barrel. These are normal but shouldn't stick out past the U shaped front sight protector wings. That protector piece is held on by a bolt that pinches it around the front sight base on the barrel. The bolt passes through a hole in the base so it's pretty hard for these to not be in the proper location.

i'm going to look closer at the sear to see if its bent or ?. and if it looks ok i'm just going to trim the sear so it doesn't hit anymore.

no, not the bayo lugs. the "minor ones behind the bayo lugs" are not minor, they are what holds the front sight base aligned on the barrel, they run the lenght of the front sight base. i think the fore stock is misaligned and the cause of problem # 3 & 4.
