K-31 question

I just got my K-31 in from AIM and am already in love with it. I was wondering if anyone knows what the protusion from the barrel band is called and what's its function?

You talking about the round tapered thingie that flips up at the end? That's a stacking hook for making a teepee of rifles. LoL!:D
