Since my Norinco has neither nhm90 or mak90 engraved , is it definetly without a doubt a preban ak47? Can the numbers confirm this? Also , the guy I bought it from said it was held in customs, thats why the thumbhole is a different color than the handguards. If it is a preban , what advantages do I have ? And what is it worth?

It sounds preban is it has no mak,nhm,or sp markings. The advantge is you can have folding stock,pistol grip,bayonett lug, flash suppressor, etc..... Value- twice of postban.

If the first 2 digits of your serial number are 90,91,92,93, or 94 then it is a post-ban rifle. Also, make sure that the model of the rifle wasn't originally stamped on the gun and later sanded off and reblued over by an unscrupulous dealer (wouldn't be the first time). Most preban Norincos have threaded barrels, bayo lugs, and cleaning rods under the barrels...check for these features too.

It sounds like a similar situation to the Yugo M-90. Since it got caught in customs and had a thumbhole AFTER the ban, it's a post-ban. Since it wasn't remarked you could probably switch it with no problems...just a technicality. http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif On the Yugos they restamped the model number.

Yea I got a MAK with serial # 29156xx so there go's the # 90/91/92/93 etc etc rule out the window, also a pre-ban marked IMSOxxxxx with no markings other than fac 66 and norinco made in china what the hell do's IMSO stand for? Better niot be I'M Sporterized Obviously! JA what can you see in the markings....?

MAK,NHM,SP or 90-94 in serial number is post ban. If none of the above it is pre ban.

Just go's to show ya, that they all dont say Mak, or nhm or whatever, mine came with a thumbhole, threaded muzzle, underfolder reciever, serial number starts with 29 maybe they switched the 92 stamp? anyway I put a usa parts kit in just because I dont want to spend time at Club Fed. now I want a hi-cap Maadi.
