China Jing A Southfield Michigan I think this is right. The a i can't remember.
Does Mak 90 always mean it's a Norinco? There are so many variations of ak's, I thought I'd better confirm before I bought. What's AKM, RPK, and RPM mean, and will all milled mak 90's have similar barrels (or are there light and heavy barrels like on ar's)? Thanks for info.
CJA is the importer and SFLD MI is where they were located.
No,MAK-90's were mfg. like General Motors cars and trucks. Parts from all over and assembled in one of several factories. All chinese rifles have barrels that are larger in diameter than other AK's. The MAK-90's milled or stamped receivers have the same diameter barrel. The MAK-91 and NHM-91 have longer and larger diameter barrels than the MAK-90's.
There are three Maddi rifle models ARM,RPM,RML. All models have the same diameter barrels. The difference is ARM 16" threaded barrel,RPM 20" threaded barrel, and the RML 20" non-threaded barrel.
Quoting from the Maddi manuals-"The semi auto ARM is unique adoption of the automatic AKM"
Ditto on the RPM.
"The semi auto RML is a unique adoption of the automatic RML."
What the model numbers stand for I don't have a clue.
AKM= automatic kalshinikov modern
RPK= squad light machinegun based on the AK with a heavier receiver(.5mm thicker than AK)longer and heaverier barrel.
RPM= Egyptian semi auto AKM type rifle.

Like I said moderator should have an "ASK JA"
collum, he answered the question I was going to ask about my friends Maadi rml, boy JA you get up early to answer questions. On the for sale board there was an underfolder sold that was marked 156s-1, I asked about it, guess it was pre-ban Norinco, but on my friends gun, it too is marked 156s-1, has a large thumbhole covering the underfolder reciever cutouts, tack welded muzzle nut on threaded bbl, and bayo lug ground down. He got it in 94-95 for 525, but its not marked MAK-90 anywhere and according to Sile (previous post) its actually pre-ban disguized as a post ban! ha! How hard we must have worked to clear customs. Of course he wants to use oversized thumbhole for firewood and add metal downfolder and wood grip, but I say better be safe than sorry and leave it alone. Wish there was a book with all the configurations, markings and dates for dealers and novices alike to reduce the confusion, anyway thanks for all your help, and I expect an "ASK JA" collum anyday!
