Finally got here. Mailed order on 12/8/01, CC hit on 2/21/02 and ammo arrived today. (Delayed due to transfer of ammo sales from Ohio to the arsenal in Anniston, AL) Lake City either 1966 or 69. Can't tell if the second is a 6 or a 9. Very clean looking. Guess my thumb will be sore loading clips tonight. 400rds delivered for $99.50. They sent it Signature Required but they left it anyway. I'll post how it shoots when I get to the range.:)

Can you tell if it came off MG links? I have a few cases in clips but you can see where it was linked.

Never been linked as far as I can tell. All nice and shiney and sealed in cardboard boxes.

Can you provide a photo of the cardboard box?

I can take a picture Monday at work and post it. Until then the box is tall and thin holding two rows of ten rds each. Top has small perforations that when you run a knife over them allow the top to be thumbed open. Front of box is marked

20 CARTRIDGES
CALIBER .30
BALL M2
LOT LC 42201
LAKE CITY AMMUNITION PLANT

All cases are annealed at the neck and have a red sealer on the primer.

Hi Guys, I just thought i'd add my 2 cents worth if you don't mind . Most of the ammo that I have ordered from the CMP is new in 20 round boxes, and in 4oo per ammo can lots.(nice stuff)
Any time you get the 400 rounds the only way they can pack it is in 20 x 20 round boxes, that is the flag for the good stuff. :)

However IF You order the 192 rounds in Enblocks (clips) they are
as Skip said pulled machine gun ammo and kinda lumpy looking with small dents etc. As are the 240 round cans..........At least all of the ones that I have gotten from them were lumpy too.

The moral is do like Richard and get the 400 rounds per can,you won't be sorry. Except the Shipping adds a lot to the order,as Richard can probably tell us.
What is the current per can now Richard ?

Out here it ALL comes Fed Express and that adds to the order quite a bit. Tha ammo was cheap but shipping costly .
That's why I bought a Dillon 650 to reload all of the brass,it's cheaper for me that way, now that I have a dumptruck load of brass. Well at least a pick up load !

One thing I hope the CMP finds more of is the NM Empty brass as it is Very Sweet, and reasonable too. Get some if they list it !

All I have left from them in New empty brass is 308 NM brass in
20 MM ammo cans, that I got for around $200.00 for 2000 cases . But I sold my last M1A so there it sits.

Well Richard ,good score and let us know if you get any more goodies. later to you too Skip ,Take care Milt

This is the ammo I received from the old DCM. As I understand it the DCM would give you a one for one when you shot in competetion. It was free. I just drove to Letterkenny Army Depot and my club paid me for milage. Ammo came in 280 cans in enbloc clips. You can see where it was linked at one time.

Looks like the pictures are disappearing again. It there now and now it's not.

That's the stiff Skip !

That is just like My "I guess you would call it" a Re- Pack or some such name Ammo that I received ! They just gave people here in Oregon the clips with the rounds they purchased @ registration time for the match until as late as last June. And after each leg of the match,You police the brass and clips and keep it all.

As of now today , you can still get the rounds for the match for around $15.00 for the 55 rounds for the standard DCM match
( we still call it that ) for spotter rounds and match rounds. And if you want more, they sometimes sell extra boxes at the same time for practice later on.

I have found that the Greek ammo is cheaper to obtain and not only "usually newer" but more accurate as far as M2Ball goes.

But If they sell more 0-6 Match ammo @ the CMP it is 174 grains and a MUCH better down range round than the 149 grain M2 which we only shoot to 300 Yards then switch to the higher grain for anything further.

Richard, Thanks. I was just wondering if the ammo you are purchasing from CMP was good stuff or the MG ammo that was given to me free.

Sure looks virgin to me. I too hadn't encountered any not on the clips without signs of having been on mg links. I heard just last week CMP was out of the stuff in the Enblocks and it was coming in boxes from a shooting buddy of mine.

I got clips, probably 350 or more so I'm not hurting for them. The CMP ammo is a good deal until you ad in the postage. That really has a harsh impact on the per round cost. But it is good reloadable brass so you can get some reuse if you reload. Something that I think every gun owner should be set up to do IMO.;)

I don't think the shipping is too bad depending on where you live as it's one set fee. The closest priced is from WG&A and I believe it's either corrosive or not reloadable. Classic Arms has the Talon for $70+ shipping for 250rds so the CMP is still a better deal IMO. If I can swing it I'll purchase my entire allotment this year as this stuff is as good as gold and there's not an infinite amount.

Richard is right about getting the nice boxed ammo while the gettin is good ! Down the road we will all be saying "remember when Richard got his full allotment " so when there isn't any more available , at least you will have a nice stash.........:)

One other point to ponder is that ONLY military ball and not reloads are now allowed in the John Garand matches, so it would be prudent to get the nice boxed ammo rather than using lumpy stuff from who knows where.:p

Go for it Richard You won't be sorry, But we may be if we don't move on it also !

Richard My Man ,You are on a Roll ! " Way To Go " !

Once again You won't be sorry to have a pristeen can in your stash just incase The ::shtf:

I must be content with what cans of mill ammo that I have on hand now, since I ordered the High Ser. Numbered Rock Island 03 with C stock and an 03A3 Smith Corona with C stock from our friends at the CMP.

It looks like I shoot my reloads that I crank out with my Dillon 650 for awhile,as I will now be so poor I won't be able to pay attention ! UNK

This'll make two cans and I hope to keep ordering one a month for the forseeable furture. 4000 rounds should allow me to reload at lest 16-20,000 rounds depending on whether I full length or neck size.

I believe I emailed them the order on 3/10 which was a Sunday. That's five working day. Packing slip was dated the 18th and that's when the CC was charged so I assumed it shipped on the 18th also. Basicall a one week Turn Around. It's the same lot as the ammo I received earlier. Popped the top, took a big whiff and a quick look. No problems. Top down, and into the stack with it's brother and shirt tail cousins. :D
