The only tools needed are a small punch(should be one in the cleaning kit) and a small hammer. The upper gas tube you rotate the lever on the side of the rear sight to a verticle position(use punch) and pull up on the handguard/gas tube. The lower is just as easy with the gas tube removed and looking down on the rifle. You will see a lever on the right front where the wood meets the metal retainer. Raise it to a verticle position(use punch) and tap the retainer foreward. Slide it foreward on the barrel till it is stopped by the gas block. Then pull the handguard foreward and off. Tapping with a hammer may be required to get the lower handguard out of the receiver.
To replace them slide lower into receiver and tap retainer back and rotate lever back to original position. The upper insert front onto gas block and push rear down and rotate lock lever into the detent/notch.
