Hi Guys ,I have been collecting Garands since 1965,and I have purchased at least 2 dozen garands from the DCM now CMP. Getting a CMP Garands is a great way to have a nice weapon at a more reasonable price and not as iffy as a show where you just might end up with a welded reciever or junk.
Danish rifles are pretty good, and don't take long to get to you,You can remove the Danish and Italian parts and make them totally U.S. again pretty easily . most were Springfield,But many were Winchester and many have oil soaked and dented stocks. But if you steam out the dents and "lightly" remove some of the oil you can have a nice shooter at a great price.
The other Grade Garands take time to get. I waited 2 years for 2 collector grade Garands when they were $750.00 and it was frustrating but worth the wait. Now the CMP has become more commercial and the Collector grade is $950.00 Ouch !
You can speed up the process IF when you send in the paperwork you use your plastic to pay for the rifle.Trust Me If you send a check, and they don't fill your order fast enough they send the check back and the process starts over! So do yourself a favor and use your plastic,as it WILL speed things up.The CMP also has auctions for .30 cal. if you want a rare Garand.
I just won an auction on a M1C for $5,150,only trouble is now I have to sell a few of my Nice garands and "maybe" one of my 1941 Johnson automatics to get my visa debt down. Another thing You can do is order a barreled reciever or Just a reciever and put a rifle together. I have gotten at least 8 $250 recievers and they are always nice, but if you get the grade B recievers you will get a shiny,or surface rusted one , which is fine if you plan to repark the rifle. As Richard Simmons said at the begining of the thread ,There are a lot of sources as the GCA that can teach you alot, " before " you spend too much on parts that don't match. Also Harrison makes a great flip book to tell you the correct parts you need on a particular rifle to make it correct. And the book tells you what leg numbers are correct with what serial number on the reciever so you won't end up with 2 recievers welded to make one if you buy one at a show . If you want to check the numbers on a garand send me the ser. number and I will tell you what the correct number on the right leg of the reciever should be. P.S. Ebay believe it or not is a good place to get parts, and now the prices are down due to the economy,so check them out too. Enjoy Your Garands, Milt

Very good post Milt.

I've received five M1 Rifles from the CMP over the last few years, and six M44US .22 training rifles. The folks at the CMP are a great bunch of folks to deal with.
