Went to the gun show today in Richmond, Virginia. I bought 3 Colt 20 round magazines. I got fucked! When I got home two of the magazines only hold 5 rounds each and one holds 20 rounds. All three look the same. They all have the Colt bottom plate on them. The two 20 round ones have a rivet in the bottom and the 20 doesn't. Are there any other ways to tell if a magazine is a real Colt. Going to call the show promoter tomorrow and raise a little hell.

All you have to do is drill out the rivet with 1/8 inch steel bit. Colt made mags with a retaining "block" in them to be politically correct years ago. It is not illegal to remove the "spacer". Don't really know what to call it but if you drill out the rivet and dissassemble the mag and remove it you should have 20 rounders again.

Authentic Colt 20 rnd mags either have a CH on the mag body
or the OK trademark on the inside of the mag body.

not to piss off the colt guys....but the vast majority of colt M16 mag (the military ones) is made by someone else, the only thing that is colt about them....is the name on the floorplate, but yet they command a higher price, simply because the name colt. I know that colt sub-contracted out the body to UNIVERSAL INDUSTRIES, if you look at the front of some 20 rd colt mags, you'll see a UI (a U with a I in it)...not sure about the mags they made for their AR civilian rifles.

I have quite a few 20 rounders by Universal Industries and they function just as good as Colts. What's in name?:)

Colt never made a mag. Simmonds/UI became OKAY Ind.
If you look at the UI logo on its side it is a CH (Colt Hartford)
but they were never made by Colt IIRC.
