No joke! Question: how is this stuff marked? Is the date stamped on the cartridge base?

Yes. All Turk 8mm I've seen has the date on the headstamp.

Guys, I've been warning you that this stuff is waaaaaaaaay hot and potentially dangerous for 2 years now. Nice to see the info, it shows how erratic year to year production is. I'm wodering if it doesn't go further like lot to lot!

Not IMO. At least not for a firearm in good condition. My 1987 Speer reloading manual, (I know, time for a new one) lists high end loads for 30.06 with 150gr bullet at a little over 2900 fps. I know we're talking .308 versus .323 but there have been a lot of pretty potent rounds chambered in the Mauser action. I can see shooting many rounds of this stuff and getting a rifle loosened up enough to warrant retiring it. I mean these rifles were designed for 2800 fps with an S Patrone cartridge. 3000 fps is something like a 7% increase. I think it's hotter than a pistol but not unsafe unless the firearm is. Just my .02

That stuff that goes over 3,000 fps worries me. The brass is old and brittle. It could blow out the case and fire a lot of gas back through the bolt. Slits on the side and necks are not doing your chambers any good either. Keep on the safety glasses gents.

I definelty would not tote this stuff to the range in the trunk of the car in the middle of summer. High temps could probably add a good 100 fps. Need to ice this stuff down like dragster fuel.

get a bullet puller and reduce the powder by 10%, or replace the powder alltogether..............

My stuff has a 1945 head stamp and it shoots great.Doesnt seem hot at all.Now as for that 1938 headstamp lot I had.Man that was off the scale.1 out of 3 cartridges split and it was a kicker.Glad I shot that stuff up.
Regards,
Somebody is going to get a KABOOM out of this lot.
If we use some common sense it wont be one of us.

You would think the turks would make the ammo safe for the turk 38 rifles. Or is this actually machinegun ammo or something?

This ammo was not loaded this hot to begin with. It has increased do to age and maybe poor storage.
