Here's one for the new forum.
When my wife's car window was smashed and shattered one night and her purse (that was hidden where no one could see it) was stolen along with my Fire Dept. hand held frequency scanning radio we notified our home owners insurance of the claim. My Fire Dept. Radio was not covered because they said that the Fire Dept should have their own policy to cover such losses. The Fire Dept did not have any such insurance to cover equipment in members vehicles because they thought that the Firemens home owners insurance would cover such losses. That cost the Tax Payers $750.00 since we were volunteers the Board of Directors of the Fire District didn't make me or my wife pay for it ourselves. The radio was completely useless to anyone besides those in the fire service since our "crystals" were in the thing. GD thieves. Had they broken into my house and stolen the radio out of it's charger, SHIELD OF SHELTER still would not have paid the claim. The insurance company said that since it was owned by someone else and just on loan to me, they were not liable for it!??!
Now we come to the kicker. My wife had a Charter Arms .38 Undercover in her purse and it was stolen along with her credit cards, checks and cash. They did pay $150.00 for the pistol. They also allowed her $85 for her purse. It was a leather "shoot through" holster purse. Out of a claim of $1,500.00... SHIELD OF SHELTER paid my wife $300.00. Since the thieves had our address and house keys the insurance company wouldn't pay for having new door locks installed either.
The thieves were sitting in the parking lot watching and saw my wife get out and turn around and put her purse between the drivers seat and the door. That is how they knew it was there since it was night you couldn't see in the windows. Had it been daytime you still could not see the purse where she put it because of where it was, plus there was dark tinting on the backseat windows and that's the one they smashed in to get the radio and the purse (it was a small hatchback car). A parking lot securty guard got a partial description of the 2 white guys that did this. They had a white PU truck and the guard got 3 of the 6 digits of the license. This also happened about a block away from the main, downtown, Bossier City Police Station too!
When my wife got the check for $300.00 on the $1,500.00 claim the insurance company called SHIELD OF SHELTER INSURANCE cancelled our home owners insurance and all our coverage (that we never missed a payment on) and we had them for about 10 years.
I called the agent and asked why they cancelled us and he said because my wife had a handgun in her purse. I said I had guns in my house too and asked if they had been covered and he said yes. He said his company didn't like the idea of my wife having a gun in her purse. He said with all the gun violence on the streets of America they didn't want to contribute to it by insuring someone that carried a gun on their person.
I told him that my wife had a permit to carry a concealed handgun issued by our Parish Sheriff and had to undergo a rigid background investigation to qualify to even be allowed to apply for the license! He said that was irrelevent! He said that SHIELD OF SHELTER INSURANCE no longer wanted us as customers and Good-Bye! This happened back in 1990.
Is that the kind of anti-gun story that you were looking for admin.? If not, then at least I have warned some of you out there about how you will be treated by SHIELD OF SHELTER INSURANCE COMPANY if you carry a handgun for self protection and have these people insuring you. Good Luck.
