My all time favorite assault rifle is my No1. Mk III*. It's a beat up 1916 model that looks like it fought WW1 and WW2 by itself! I found it at a gun show about 8 years ago. Paid $39 for it. The bore is perfect. I wouldn't sell it for the world!
Here is a great Enfield web site:

Also check out the great article in the August 01 issue of G&A on the MkIII.

I have to agree with you there, 762nato. It's hard to beat an old warhorse like the No.1 Mk.III*.

Thanks. This is actually a lousy picture. My digital camera photography skills have improved since I took that pic. :D
Tell me more about yours. Where was it made? What is stamped on the brass disk?

I'm really not to sure about my No. 1 Mk III*. I had someone explain to me what all the markings ment but didn't bother writing it all down. (I'm into the Swede 96's more than anything else.) It's dated 1916, on the right side of the receiver it has V over the ser. no. and what looks like HB over E. On the left it has Crown over G.B. over crossed flags over P. next to that Crown over 95 over E.
The stock disc has the number 36 on it. I don't think the disc is original as there are no screws in the screw holes holding it in. It looks to be pressed in. I havn't tried to remove it.
The butt plate is solid brass with the trap door.
Ser. No. is 814X
