Well, I think you all know me well enough now to ask something like this. I am looking for an Enfield since I don't have one, and was wondering which one you would pick for me. There are too many flavors and I just don't know what's what.
1. I like accurate rifles.
2. I don't mind big, long, or heavy ones.
3. I like pretty ones.
Where should I look? How much to spend?
Thanks
Shawn

I like the No. 4 Mk II's as they have the best sights and the best triggers. Who has them right now . . .?
What would it cost . . . Probably $150 to $350 ranging from a VG condition used one to some that came out of Ireland in mummy wrap. You can tell those because the stocks are the color of a manila folder.

Like Schuetz said, No.4 Mk.II*s are the most accurate Enfields. They represent the last step in the evolution of the Lee-Enfield design. The Savage Mk.II* is the most sought-after Enfield as it was very accurate, well made and not mass produced on a very large scale. Even so, I like the No.1 Mk.III* better for asthetic reasons. It could be all in my head, but I think the No.1 Mk.III* bolt is actually smoother and faster than the No.4 Mk.I or Mk.II*.
Unless it is practically unblemished (like the Irish mummy wraps), anything over $200 for a No.1 or a No.4 is a rip off. I see VG rated Enfields for $150 at every gun show. You could even go with a wire wrapped Enfield for around $80 if you don't mind the ugly appearance. Nice thing about these is that they typically have minty bores.
I/O sells No.4's and AIM had them at one time. Empire Arms gets a few now and then too.

My personal favorite Enfield is the No. I (my SHTF rifle)
However, I agree with the experts above, get a No. 4!
My reason for this is that I know Shawn prefers a peep sight, (remember he wants to put a peep sight on his Schmidt Rubin;))

I have a no4 mk1 that is sporterized and it is a tack driver. but i have to make my ammo custom cause its bore is in .308 instead of .311 and it is the .303 british case so i got to neck the cases down and put .303 bullets in it. also i have a no1 mk3 that i havent fired yet dont know what its going to be like cause the bore is kinda pitted but not too bad

Shawn Good man! C&R rifles, like Pamela Anderson, look better in their original condition. ;)

So where do I get one? Who's got these at a fair price? I want one in VG-Ex Condition.

You always ask the tough questions. SARCO on their web site use to list some Excellent ones on occasion, but you'll pay for it. Springfield Sporters has hand the No. 4 MK II's but I don't know if they have any now. Try Navy Arms, they have the No. 4 MK I's in reworked conditon.
Asside from that Go to Gun Shows and keep your eyes pealed!

I've got to agree with Schuetzenman. Be patient and find one at a gun show. There's nothing like inspecting it before buying it. If I had to order one it would be from Dennis at Empire Arms.
Patience!!!!!!

I believe Monday I'm calling Springfiled Sporters and ordering a MKIII No.I Special Select with Grenade Launcher, $175.00. Mint bore, headspaced and test fired and a #4 MKI with mint bore for $90.00. They offer Moltby, BSA or Fazakerley. Any preference between these three? Opinons welcome please. TIA
PS. I see they have the 8mm Lebel Turkish Forestry Rifle fo$65.00. Looks like a sweety. Anyone got one of these? I've only got about 8rds of Lebel ammo left though.
Changed my mind. I'm ordering a 1903A3 Remington with "C" stock instead.:)
