I thought I had heard a rumor of this a while back. Should have taken it more serious and stockpiled some scratch. Oh well, there's always crime or credit. :D

Schuetzenman's hands tremble slightly as he types. His brow is furrowed and slightly glistening with small beads of sweat as he feverishly contemplates where to get the money to purchase a Remington 03, Springfield high number 03 and a Remington 03A3 so that he has ALL of the manufacturers of each type weapon! :rockin: :yeah:

Shawn's eyes glisten with salty water as he wrings his hands and beats his head against the keyboard. If only he had joined a CMP qualified club earlier! If only he qualified for such purchases! If only he wasn't such a slow moving bastard!
Is it against the "rules" if someone who was CMP qualified bought one of these and sold it to me?
I swear I will be soon.... I just sent the check to the Osage Orange Sharpshootes (CMP Club) yesterday. I haven't participated in a match or anything, but I plan to.

Are the low serial SA and RI both a problem with the receiver being hard or is it the SA only? $300 is perfect for me but I'd be good to go for $400.

M1903 and M1903A3 Model Rifles
For the past few years the CMP has been receiving only a
few dozen M1903 rifles annually. These rifles were mostly
returns from veterans organizations and generally in fair
to poor condition. These were offered for sale through a
periodic lottery to give each of the thousands of
interested individuals an equal opportunity to purchase
this particular piece of American history.
The CMP has recently acquired from the Army what is being
reported as the last remaining sizeable quantity of M1903s
in the world. We are pleased to offer these rifles for sale
exclusively to members of CMP affiliated organizations and
are also pleased to announce that the lottery has been
discontinued. Because many of our customers have been on
the lottery list for years, we are mailing special order
forms this week to everyone on the list and will process
their orders as soon as received. We will not process other
orders for these rifles until after 1 MAY 2002. We urge
everyone who receives our letter to submit orders as soon
as possible.
The 2002 issue of the CMP catalog will be mailed the week
of 18 Mar 2002 to everyone who made a purchase from the CMP
in the past 18 months. This issue contains information and
descriptions of the 1903s and order forms.
These rifles are not new from manufacturer and some have
seen considerable use. All appear to have been rebuilt at
one time or another. Many appear to not have been fired
since being rebuilt. Many of these rifles are coated in
grease or Cosmoline and will require a thorough cleaning
after purchase. All are being sold as-is and we strongly
recommend each rifle be thoroughly cleaned and inspected
by a qualified gunsmith prior to use. CMP will inspect each
rifle for completeness and headspace. Because of the
expected high demand for these rifles and other CMP items,
we are estimating order to ship time to be approximately
60 -90 days.
These rifles have been segregated into sixteen different
options. More information is available at www.odcmp.com.
We request that anyone interested go to the website at
http:\\www.odcmp.com and download information and
applications rather than calling the CMP. We do not have
the 2002 catalog back from the printers and will not be
able to mail out order forms until after 18 Mar 2002.

Springfield receivers with a serial # under 800,000 or Rock Island arsenals with serial #'s under 350,000 (if I remember correctly) are in the super hard, might blow your head off range.
That's why those weapons are cheaper as they are not as desirable because they should only be used as wall hangers for saftey sake.
Well Zoauve it looks like if we get cracking and join somewhere and shoot asap we might sneak in under the wire.

Quick gents, what the hell is the "S" and "C" stock. Info please.
Help, I need a fix.
What to order. I have been lusting for one of these.
Got my CMP Garand last year, now this. Praise the LORD!
C Stock has a pistol grip. Finally! I can post pics.

Thanks, I have been looking and see that the "C" is the pistol grip. These came out around 1930 or so?
Already burned off the app, now to collect my paper work.
I'll have to call to see when they will accept the applications.
I'm thinking of getting a high numbered O3 Rock Island with a straight grip, and a A3 Smith and Corona with the C grip. Advice? Sound like a good plan?

Dammit, when I got my M1 from the CMP, it took NINE months because of the NICS check. Since I am always delayed, CMP sent my app back saying that since they didn't get an approval back in three days, they couldn't process my order. Once the FBI got off their ass and approved me, I got the rifle. I'd hate to have to go through all that bullshit again, but for one of these, I think I'll have to give it a try.
And thanks to Richard for the heads up!

Hoorah . . . I'm on the lottery list!! I'll be sending in my order this week. I can't believe they're letting you order up to one of each catagory, for a total of 16 rifles. I think I'll only order 3.

Can you really order up to 16 rifles, or is it one 1903 and one 1903A3?

I checked and have confirmed, you can order one from each catagory and their are 16 catagories. It adds up to $6300.00 if you order 16.
I backed off and only ordered two, a high serial number Springfield 1903 and a Remington 1903. The big mystery is what condition are these rifles in . . . .
I went by my local Barnes & Noble bookstore to order a couple of the 1903 collectors books and they asked me "what is a 1903 and why are so many people calling wanting books on them?" I straight-faced told the young lady it was a book on firearms used to fight off terrorists.

Just recieved e-mail yesterday indicating that I am not on the lottery list, but I have met the rest of the criteria to order after May 1, 2002.
Faulkner,
let us know the condition of yours when you reiceve it. If it's pretty rough looking then I may just keep checking the pawn shops. I passed up a real gem back in 1999, but didn't realize what I was looking at at the time.
Thanks,
Speedfish
