1. I started this project for a friend. He asked me to clean this 28 carcano up for him. He then called today and said I could have it as he couldnt get any ammo for it:D :D

2. I now have the 28 and the 38 model. I had already ordered one from Century Friday as I wanted one so now I will have to 28s. Damn I hope I can get some ammo.

I hate these damn boards. Now I am thinking that I need one of these too. I am going to have to take on a second job just to support my new hobby.

1. They are very beautifully constructed rifles. I was impressed as I broke her down to clean her. Get them from Century while you can.

I'm kind of a point and shoot sort of fellow. I'm not much for home gunsmithing and restoration yet, but I'm learning from you guys. What condition are these in? Can I find one that is not beat to hell and covered in filth?

I just ordered a Carcano M38 Short Rifle from SOG and paid the $10 hand select fee as well. It is a 1940 RE Terni in 6.5mm.

The gun arrived Thursday, and I must say, it has cleaned up extremely nice. Bluing was about 90%, no stock gouges, tight bolt, really nice bore, and no cracks. I would honestly call this one NRA Very Good.

I hear say the Century guns almost invariably have a cracked stock or handguard, but clean up real nice. I think SOG is the way to go if you don't want to fix cracked/gouged stocks, reblue, etc. Just pay the $10 HS fee. Supposedly CAI ships their best ones to their favorite suppliers, or so is the rumor on a Carcano board I frequent.

Neil - Nice Moschetto TS! Who is the manufacturer and what year is it? Now you need to get the Cavalry Carbine with the folding bayonet. Hold out and get a Beretta if you can. I got one in a trade a few weeks ago, and you can see the quality Beretta put into their Carcanos.

1. the cartuche shows 1928, but I cant see the emblems or the read the arsenal. It does have the same cartouche symbol on the bolt which has matching numbers as my 38 from Gardona.

Is it Brescia? I found out that Gardone VT was right next door to Beretta, btw. Apparently there is a connection between the two.

1. the side of the receiver has what appears to be a SG or 96 stamped into it, it has the shield with the crown on the other side with a 1x. The cartouche on the butt is illegibal except the 1928 and what appears like a TERNI. The other side has a PM stamped on it with no serial # stamped. The bolt has a PB stamped on it with matching serial to the receiver.

2. Finally I can barely make out what appears to be TERNI on the top of the receiver

RE Terni is associated with the crown on Carcanos. That was the national armory of Italy up until WWII. They are notorious for light stamps, so that's what it probably is. It should be marked on the barrel shank (on top of the chamber).

1. Just able to reat TERNI on the chamber.

2. My Century shipped yesterday so I'll post pics and details as it arrives.

3. Glad to hear that Hornady will produce ammo, hope we get it on line soon.
