Ok I was looking at the 1903A3's over at the CMP (http://www.odcmp.com/Services/Rifles/m1903.htm)
and I have a few questions...first which are the safe ones to shoot...I heard one run of these rifles had brittle recviers.
Second question...what is a "S" or "scant" stock and how does one have a pistol grip on this weapon (its the "C" code)

The brittle receivers are the low serial # Rock Island & Springfields. All others offered should be outside the serial # range for brittle receivers. The basic 1903 has a straight sock like an english double barrel shotgun. The Scant stock has just a little bit of a pistol grip while the "C" model has a pistol grip like a modern bolt action rifle. I believe you're thinking something like an AK pistol grip.
