Hi gang-

So I was doing maintenance on my legal pre-ban Sanchez 30rnd USGI type mags and I got to thinkin'.

(A dangerous condition, I know.)

I bought kits at the local gun show; these kits had green followers, springs, and DMPS floorplates to make these (dirty) Sanchezes work properly. I thought to myself, "Well, self, don't put the new DMPS floorplates in, or no one will know that these are Sanchez pre-sept 1994 mags."

But then I realize that nowhere on the mags are there any dates of any kind, even the floorplates. Then, I think about all the AK mags I see. No dates anywhere.

The Orlites have some kind of dating system, but I can't decipher them... and the ones I see at gun shows suuuure look new. So now I start to worry.

Ummmm... is this an issue?

If they're unmarked, and have not been altered to remove any existing markings, they're considered pre-ban and legal.

Date stamp on post-ban US-market magazines goes on the side a few inches up from the bottom.

Thankee muchly, Circuits. I don't relish the idea of being hassled for what I thought were legal mags.

OK, kEwL.

I have a few mags date stamped on the outside about one inch above the floor plate. Several others are stamped inside indicating that they were date stamped prior to being folded. Again, the date is just above the floor plate.

Just be sure the date (if any) is prior to Sept 1993 or is it 94  Getting old and forgetful.

Any mag marked after the ban is Post Ban mags and Leo, Military or foe export ony and can be had NIW for about $10.00 with a green follower.

If you don't fall into one of the above catagories just having a post ban mag could be a huge fine and a stay at a far away bed and breakfast. With a alot of other guys that ticked the Alphabet Soup team off.
