Hey, right now im looking at a Mauser and a Mosin Nagant, but eventualy I want a Enfeild too so I was looking at the ones J&G sales had.

First question is should I stay with .303 or go .308, I found SOME cheao .303 on ammunition store (was like 20 cents a shot I belive) but would getting a Enfeild in .308 be a better choice or are they butcher jobs?

Two that cought my eye
They have Enfield 2A No.1 MKIII Ishapore in 308 $179.95

Enfield No. 7 Jungle Carbine .308 Caliber, with flash hider and refinished metal and stock $169.95

I hear the Jungle Carbine is a POS, is that true?

Any other place I could pick up a LE for less than $200?

I prefer the .303, but thats because I am a collector and the the .308 "2A" and "No.7" Enfields were made in India.

The Jungle Carbine that J&G is offering not an original, they are cut down "2A" Enfields.

However, I think both of the guns you are looking at would be a good shooters :)

An added plus is that the .308 Enfields have a 12 round Mag.

SOG has number 5 jungle carbines (supposed to be original, not conversions) going for $179, good to very good condition. I ordered one and will see just how "good" the condition of mine is Monday. The last gun I got through them was in pleasingly good condition. I hope my luck holds out.

Ishapores do have a 12 round mag, but they are heavy - really heavy. This may be just my perception, but it also seems like the .308 recoils much worse than the .303. Anyway, my shoulder bruises quicker when firing the 2A than it does when I'm firing one of my .303 rifles. ;) I like the .303 rifles better, but I confess that much of my appreciation for them comes from their place in history.
