After last weekend's gunshow I have it pretty well equipped to go to the range. I picked up 1k of S&B ammo, a nice cache of 15 and 30 round magazines, a G.I. oiler and sling, and a fairly close matching forearm top (wood, 2 holes) to replace the metal heat shield.
I got it sighted in on Sunday. Now I just have to keep finding reasons to get out to the farm to shoot!
It's an Inland, WW2 vintage.
Here's a photo.

Nice, I really like the carbine. For me, it gives all the nostalgic feeling of WW2 in a neat, little package. Like the sights, like the round, like the wood. Of course, ammo gets expensive.

A relative of mine used to work for Primestar installing dishes and equipment at people's houses. There was this one install with a frail, little ol' widow who still had some of her husbands guns. She said that she liked the carbine the best, that it was her "house gun". And to chamber the first round? She had to cock it against a door. :)

Mousepad,
I like the gun too! Had a Universal, it was fun but jammed alot...but what do you expect for a $200 gun?

I thought for sure your "dish install" story was going to end up with a pristine M-1 Carbine traded to set up a dish!!!
I can see a little old lady liking the gun, My son loves it. I't an "easy keeper"...all but the ammo cost.
Do you reload? I may give it a try after I shoot up 2-3k rounds.

I like the little carbine also. To improve the accuracy on mine I had to place some wood slivers in between the stock and receiver. It was really loose. I also placed a new screw with bolt to tighten down the end cap. They are usually stripped and doesn't hold tightly.

That's a pretty good looking USGI carbine. Kind of looks like a Winchester stock, flat on the bottom.

VonFatman- Heh, I wish! It made me smile just thinking about him walking through the door with it. Would have been nice to add to the collection, but part of me would rather see the ol' widow keep it. It's really perfect for her, smaller than a rifle with a pistol-like round, light, semi-auto, low recoil, high-capacity...

Everything a granny needs to thwart would-be intruders. :D

Nice looking Carbine VonFatman. If you don't mind me asking how much did you have to pay for it?

Skip,
Mine seems tight so far, I may get back to you if it turns out to be loose.

Faulkner,
I will probably learn alot about this gun as I go forward. Shotgun News' latest issue had anice article on the M-1 thru the M-3.

Mousepad,
Yep, Granny needs her gun!

Schuetzenman,
I paid $425 delivered. I have no regrets...seems like a fair deal.

My receiver is loose because the stock is an M2 with the cut outs.
