The answers I've come across are NO and Operation Varsity, 1945, with glider troops but even then the latter were converted M1's. Please be exact in date and action.

If they saw service, did the 30-round mag appear in time or was that a post-war ony addition.

This problem has been vexing me for years. Please someone give me closure!

Thanks

JB.

The March 20 issue of shotgun News has an article on the M1 Carbine. Here is an exert. "The select-fire M2 would not be fully developed and subsequently adopted until very late in the war. There were known to be a few unauthorized field conversions performed by GIs who had some limited knowledge of gunsmithing. These carbines were probably more dangerous to the shooter than the enemy. By the time M2 began getting into the hands of troops in the field the war was almost over. The M2 saw little combat use in WWII." PS. The 30 round magazine was developed just before the Korean War.
