ok I really need to get off the computer now. it's starting to thunder now.

I found out a good way to blue a gun with out having that "blue tint" to it. get some flat black enamel high temp. spray paint (the stuff you spray in your oven) and spray it on a rag then whip it over the blue area and it will turn it black with out having that "blue tint" to it.
ill write more later

this is what I did to her.
1. stripped the wood with PP and let sit for a few days.
2. sanded most of the nicks and bumps out and made wood filler out of saw dust and wood glue. filled in the BIG gouges with it and let sit for a few days to get really hard.
3 sanded some more.(sanded off and on for about 2 weeks,2 min here and 2 min there)
4 put some red oak stain on her to match up with the upper hand guard.
5. steel wool her with 0000 to get any burs out of the wood.
6. put on about 5 coats of tru-oil,steel wool her down every time I put on another one.
7 steel wool the shine out of the last coat.
8 degreased all the metal parts.
9. steel wool all the metal parts to get rid of all the rust.
10 I had a big pit on the side of the receiver. I got some wet and dry sand paper and took care of that.
11. now everything is clean and degreased I blued all the metal.
12 now the gun had a blue tint to it so I got some flat black enamel high temp. spray paint and sprayed it on a rag and wiped the whole gun down.now the gun has a flat black look to it.
13 put it back together and take about 1000 pic of it.
14 and now I enjoy

That can't be the same rifle. Huge difference. What did or does the bore look like? I can't remember if you mentioned earlier. Lots of character. Really looks good. Please post this in the French/Swiss forum. Congratulations on a job/rescue well done. Kind of like that car show, "Don't crush em, restore em." You definelty gave that rifle a new lease on life.

the bore looked like CRAP.what I did was get a cork from a wine bottle and carved it into a wedge shape/\.I shoved it in the receiver end and made it water tight.what I did next was,I got a can of CARB cleaner and filled the barrel to the top.I let it sit for a few days and repeat it again.then I used the J-B bore clean to clean up the bore.now it looks like a mirror. it has one small pit in the land part but it should be ok.
