Dear Neilwest or any other expert,
I purchased a beautiful 1909 mauser 30.06 all matching numbers and even every screw has little symbols of two hands shaking or an asterisk and love it. Anyhow
I have a difficulty with it though, it is really hard to flip bolt up after firing it. The bolt works great after it has been "cocked" once but the action goes to crap after firing. I have diassembled the rifle completly and buffed/polished all the parts removing the gunk and stuff/rust? built up in the crevasses, but it still if un comfortable, really have to bash it with your palm to flip the bolt up. I have not found another 1909 owner yet and all the 8mm guys never have had this trouble. I wonder is it possible to have a spring too strong or is it operator head space and timing? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated, I purchased this rifle for $179 after consulting with some members here and even in it's present state really love it. One thing "bad" about it is it hard to sight anything under 150 meters, the sight is all the way back and you can only see a little of the front sight to hit targets at 100 meters, very accurate though and can't wait to go somewhere with a longer range. The sight is graduated to 1800 meters that seems way too far to shoot a rifle let alone one 100yrs ago, if impossible to shoot this far why put a sliding sight like that on there? Every part on it is marked by an armorer was it modified from the original and also one more thing, what does a rifle like this go for? I really appreciate your time and attention in this matter, I hope that I will be able to help people in the future as the SR members have helped/taught me, Thanks an Old Scout!
