1. I checked this one out. It is a beater grade, I am stripping the stock, staining it back and then tung oiling or Tru-oiling it back, I am going to dremel the metal in the rough spots and cold blue with OXPHO. I will post her under the first when complete.

2. This one is a 1915 91TS

The Italian rifles usually had no stain. What you see is probably years of cosmoline which soaked into the wood,

Use either Tung or boiled Linseed on these WWII rifles. Tru-Oil makes it so glossy, that it looks unrealistic.

Neil - on my Beretta Cavalry Carbine, I used Acetone extensively, and then placed it in the oven, wrapped in paper towels, at 180 degrees for an hour. Carcano Carbine stocks usually fit right in the oven at a slant. The paper towels were soused in cosmo when I got it out.

That's what it took to get all that dark grease off and close to the redish orange natural color of Beechwood.

This is tung oil and paste wax finish. I did get down to the wood but didnt sand. So the dark sections remained. Still doesnt look to bad.
